Anyone thinking of going?

alex in montreal, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:14 (seventeen years ago)

Thinking about it. Cherry Blossoms, Pink Reason and Marshal Allen too. Dragons of Zynth looks interesting...

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

God, that looks brilliant. Sadly, it is completely impossible for me to go.

emil.y, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)

5 mins away from my house so this sounds tempting. What is this festival anyway?

baaderonixx, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)

Not really sure, someone forwarded this to me and it looked awesome. Would this be close to the Brussels Central Station, thus I should find a place somewhere near there?

alex in montreal, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:29 (seventeen years ago)

Yes - it's pretty close by. 15min walk I reckon.

10 hours of experimental music sounds pretty daunting.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

It won't be all unlistenable screeching, they do innocent laptop noodling too

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:49 (seventeen years ago)

Nah, they seem to have quite a wide range. More so than most 'experimental' festivals, which seem to have conflated the ideas of experimental and BORING DRONE NONSENSE. I'm sorry, since when has a man sitting around with a guitar and some pedals looping a single note been experimental?

(Note: I do actually like a lot of drone nonsense. Just not the boring sort.)

emil.y, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:59 (seventeen years ago)

Alrighty - might be the opportunity for the 1st ever BXL FAP?

baaderonixx, Thursday, 14 February 2008 11:15 (seventeen years ago)

damn - I'm at the Digitalism show in the Ancienne Belgique that day :-/

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 11:30 (seventeen years ago)

BXL FAP seems like a good idea... will keep y'all posted.

alex in montreal, Thursday, 14 February 2008 12:41 (seventeen years ago)

yeah this looks really good, not boring at all. i mean psychedelic horseshit, clockcleaner, cherry blossoms - these aren't really 'experimental' music

They've done this festival for a few years now. Consistently varied line-ups. Last few years was also Pengo, Idea Fire Company, LAFMS dudes, Little Howlin Wolf, Major Stars, Richard Bishop, Patty Waters...

They've done a few freebie comps for the Wire.

Los Llamarada just played some Kraak event too. Gutted they're not hanging around for the main festival!

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 14 February 2008 13:31 (seventeen years ago)

worst edition in a loooong time. and in Bruxelles pfff...i'm boycotting

rizzx, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

Can't really call that a bad line-up. Seems pretty much within the bounds of previous years, if you ask me...

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 14 February 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)

Where does it usually take place?

baaderonixx, Thursday, 14 February 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

Hasselt, I think...

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, Hasselt.

largely subjective but this one is way more folksy than previous editions. lot of siltbreeze stuff i dont really dig as well

only bardo pond make me wanna go..

rizzx, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

Folksy? I ain't familiar with that that Hellvete guy who's described as 'funeral folk' - whatever that means. That like Smolken? Current 93? - but the rest of it ain't what I'd call folksy at all! Maybe Cherry Blossoms, but they've got a twist of something looser in 'em. And they're pretty great anyway.

The Siltbreeze bands are my main draw here! I just wanna see them here so I don't have to go see them at Barden's Boudouir in London. Hate that venue.

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

i love pink reason's album on siltbreeze, but i think live... ugh

baaderonixx, are there lots of hostels in the area? been trying to google for some walking distance ones.

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 16:37 (seventeen years ago)

I emailed for tickets, but got no response. Did you just Paypal the cash without pre-booking?

gnarly sceptre, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 17:02 (seventeen years ago)

There's a youth hostel very close to there. I think it's the official one, so you should be able to easily find it on the web

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

i paypalled the one marked as 23 EUR on Saturday and got a email response today.

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

Highlights were Psychedelic Horseshit and Clockcleaner... really dug Up-Tight and Silver Apples put a smile on my face... Cherry Blossoms and Pink Reason were my biggest disappointments... gotta say, i really loved the set-up of this festival, very nice

alex in montreal, Monday, 3 March 2008 09:27 (seventeen years ago)

Been there, but prefer the line up of last year's ZXZW in Holland. +200 artists all over the town.
The first names of this years line up (including Z'ev) have been announced. I think this year it's gonna be even better.

Did anyone go to the Museum Night Fever thing in the evening? DJ Spinna was good fun...
