It would appear that Massive Attack will be curating this year's Meltdown. http://music.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,2256922,00.html How about predicting their list of guests, then ticking them off against the actual list when it comes out?
― Daniel Giraffe, Friday, 15 February 2008 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
OK, who wouldn't have Lee Perry at their Meltdown?
(OK, sit down Morrissey)
― Mark G, Friday, 15 February 2008 15:00 (eighteen years ago)
Sort of ties in with the return of Portishead, so um them maybe?
― NickB, Friday, 15 February 2008 15:04 (eighteen years ago)
It'll also coincide with MBV's tour in June.
Cocteau Twins reunion too far-fetched?
― Daniel Giraffe, Friday, 15 February 2008 15:07 (eighteen years ago)
When's that new album supposed to be coming out? I remember seeing an interview with Del Naja after 100th Window where he was all like "Yeah, we're gonna be quick with the next one and stop being so precious about things". What a lying bastard.

Don't suppose we'll be seeing Tricky and/or Maximum Joy reunion
"Yeah, we're gonna be quick with the next one"
Artists, off the top of my head, who said this:
Kate Bush, Scott Walker, New Order...
― Mark G, Friday, 15 February 2008 15:22 (eighteen years ago)
Akala or Ty or some other go-nowhere British "conscious" rapper
― Dom Passantino, Friday, 15 February 2008 15:29 (eighteen years ago)
I'm wondering which reggae artists are going to be wheeled on, apart from Horace, of course.
― Daniel Giraffe, Friday, 15 February 2008 15:35 (eighteen years ago)
an original 90/91 line up reunion i would die for.
maybe we'll get a decent remaster of BLUE LINES now.

Mark Stewart
very likely. he's touring and good to go with new album so this has to be part of the promotion. he was fantastic at the Venn festival a couple of years ago in bristol. genuinely fantastic.

well it wasn't that big a surprise re Mark Stewart + Mafia, but WTF is a "Showcase Edit".

Quite tempted by Gang Of Four/Tom Tom Club.
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)
Fucking hell YMO are playing?
― Matt #2, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)
Stiff Little Fingers? Awesome. I would have predicted Yaz(oo).
― Chelvis, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)
I was wondering which reggae people they'd invite, not least given the lack of talent still alive. I'm happy about Johnny Clarke, but I'm slightly concerned about the term 'reggae acoustic songbook'.
― Daniel Giraffe, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 16:27 (seventeen years ago)
Stiff Little Fingers play all the time. I dunno what they're like these days - I have a chance to see them this summer as they're playing a festival I'm going to.
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 16:29 (seventeen years ago)
They have a new album called Edit. My guess is they will be showcasing it.
― Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)
Nice looking lineup.
― Alex in SF, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)
More meh (Orchestral "Blade Runner" -- dudes, the point of this sndtrk is that it's all synths/) than whoa!! (YMO // Reggae showcase) but still pretty heavy lineup.
― Capitaine Jay Vee, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 03:52 (seventeen years ago)
I agree with Capitaine. Unlike in previous years, there's nothing in this meltdown lineup that makes me hyperventilate and go 'wow, omg, I never thought I'd get to see them play'.
― Daniel Giraffe, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 07:14 (seventeen years ago)
id go to see saxon sound and grace jones, definitely. dont want to see p-funk in 2008. one of the most interesting (ie non 100% rock) meltdown lineups in a while.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:16 (seventeen years ago)
By the by, playing Daddy G's DJ Kicks earlier and wondering if there are links to any of his other sets and/or recommendations for more in a similar vein?

Anyone got the codes from The Observer for the MA tickets being released Monday?
― djh, Sunday, 27 April 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)
I should point out that the Gong show is their first with Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy back in the line-up since 1975. (Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mike Howlett are also performing.) The same line-up are playing the Forum on the following night, for those (like me) who prefer a standing venue. I AM VERY EXCITED.
Interesting to see the two Dangermouse acts sharing a bill (Shortwave Set/Martina Topley-Bird).
Also: seriously, go see Elbow. Best live act I've seen in months, and the current album's nothing short of a masterpiece. There, I've said it.
― mike t-diva, Monday, 28 April 2008 11:26 (seventeen years ago)
No Laurie Allen? It's a DISGRACE!
Can't stand Elbow, I'm afraid, least of all their recent remake of "Just The One" by the Levellers which they retitled "Grounds For Divorce."
― Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 28 April 2008 11:34 (seventeen years ago)
Oh and Fleet Foxes are the most overhyped pile of tripe you'll hear all year and if Massive Attack personally had anything to do with their inclusion I would be very surprised.
― Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 28 April 2008 11:36 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, ring the southbank centre's ticket line and quote 'blue lines'.
