I noticed that the local record store has a used copy of Automanikk priced for 25 euros. Since it's never been reissued, I guess it is a rarity... But I don't buy records just because they're rare, so would you say the music on it is worth the price?

I've never heard the other tunes on it besided Voodoo Ray.

I would say "no," but I met him (that guy called Gerald) in 1990. He was very chatty and affable. But I can't imagine listening to that stuff in 2008 (in much the same way I don't want to listen to Adamski or Guru Josh or any of those clowns). But, y'know, that's me.

Ah, you're rigth, Automanikk is his second album actually. Anyway, Automanikk is the one they're selling.
― Tuomas, Monday, 18 February 2008 14:12 (eighteen years ago)
The Automanikk version of "Voodoo Ray" is totally different from the famous one (more atonal).
It's well worth seeking out, even if only for "Eyes Of Sorrow" which sounds like Supersavers In Hell remapped by Jeff Mills and Anton Webern.
Whatever did happen to Terry and Jerry?

I remember the bonus track "Specific Hate", which was a dig at 808 State, which I gather was his original song that he claims the other 808 guys stole from him and made famous as "Pacific State"

Although a very similar track entitled "Subscape" appears on the album proper.

God, the early Peel Sessions he did were so fucking good but the album is damn near impossible to find (took me 3 wks to get an incomplete vinyl rip on slsk). Automanikk and Hot Lemonade are also super top-notch classic acid but they are so oop it's not even funny.

I GOT AUTOMANIKK FOR $2.99 YES YES YES

I am, like, really really giddy and excited about this find. I gasped loudly when I saw it in the record store.
Mr. Fingers - Amnesia and Virgo -Virgo are both better acid albums IMO but you got a great deal.
― brotherlovesdub, Friday, 19 November 2010 21:37 (fifteen years ago)
Thanks for the Virgo rec. I really like their tracks on the acid house comp I have. I'll look for the album.
― the coffee of coffees (corey), Friday, 19 November 2010 22:03 (fifteen years ago)
I have the Virgo rec and it's OK but I could never really get into it.
