Time we had a thread on this awesome Husband/Wife duo.
New album Occasion on Not Not Fun is crushing. This band is consistently great.

Any other fans round here apart from Ned & I?

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 18 February 2008 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

I'm a big fan. Grandeur of Hair and Between The Dead (am I remembering that title correctly?) were on constant rotation around here last year. The new one is good? I was kinda curious but money's tight and I was wondering if I really needed another Goslings album right now.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 00:00 (eighteen years ago)

Oh you wont be disappointed. This is a band that actually knows quality control!
Check your email btw

they didn't friend me back on myspace. jerks. good music, though.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

The Goslings don't have internet access. Apparently they use the library if they have to email their label(s). I don't know if someone else does their myspace for them.

The Goslings

Occasion

NNF098—CD ($11)

Hollywood, Florida family/band Max and Leslie Soren have been unleashing their private bouts of punishing ceremonial sludge-gaze for the past half a decade now, and there’s been some total titanic highlights (Between the Dead, Grandeur of Hair, etc). But the grunge swamp graveyard they seem to unearth their moss metal from must be profoundly fertile ground, because each new song-cycle they lay to tape is somehow even more miraculously brutal and shimmering and visionary than the one before it. This phenom holds true for Occasion, The Goslings’ newest and maybe deepest doom/beauty inquest. Eight thundering masterpieces of molten slime riff majesty, nightstalker drums, and soaring-into-the-sun female vox that crush the earth, bleed, and breathe in humid darkness. Ranging from the Slowdive-meets-Skullflower transcendent descent of “Motorcade” through to the quaking basement funeral of “Little Horn,” Occasion is a glorious passage into The Goslings’ hidden holy land. Mastered for optimal audio gravity by James Plotkin, and housed in a swank six-panel wallet-style metallic-ink digipak with artwork by the band.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

Man, I hate digipacks.

Will probbaly buy this though

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

Is all the distortion and fx computer plug-ins? It sounds like it.

Anyone have any links to good interviews with them?

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

This is the only interview I know of http://www.silbermedia.com/qrd/archives/32goslings.html
My CD arrived today.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, that interview was pretty interesting. I was sure it was recorded into a laptop, then messed w/digitally but I was way off beam.

Still not sure if I actually like this band yet.

Raw Patrick, Thursday, 21 February 2008 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

It's a shame they will probably never tour since hardly anyone knows who they are. They would get like 1 man and a dog even at gigs in their own state they say.
3 of the best bands of recent years are The Goslings, Angelic Process (RIP) and Nadja yet most people will never hear of them. They needed a tour with Jesu or Neurosis/Isis to get some notice I think.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 21 February 2008 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

OK this record rules.

Raw Patrick, Saturday, 23 February 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

Holy shit! This is magnificent. Their best, and that's saying a lot. This crushes to dust everyone else working within the 'metal shoegaze' style right now (except maybe Angelic Process, R.I.P)

Just bought this based on all the good things mentioned here. Hopefully I will not be disappointed!

jonathan - stl, Monday, 25 February 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks for the info. I ended up ordering it from Aquarius, along with some Circle albums. I'm still very excited to hear this.

i was inspired by this thread and DLed their "Full Hunter's Moon" CD-EP. definitely right up my alley, great stuff.

And I wasn't. This is gorgeous stuff, sounds like I need to DL that EP now too.

Glad to see so many people enjoying The Goslings.

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)

sleeve u should also get Granduer of Hair. It's fucking ace.

W4LTER, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:52 (seventeen years ago)

Occasion is still kicking my ass. At times its like an evil verison of MBV pulling you along on a rickety coal cart ride express to hell. But then the relative calm of "Incense of Death" pops up to make it all okay. I love this album.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

Hurrah!

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

Occasion is phenomenal. "Vitium" is sooo good. This is the first time I've listened to this album since early last year.

Also, I think its hilarious (and awesome) that they use a geocities site for their website. Can't wait for the vinyl reissue of Grandeur Of Hair.

van smack, Saturday, 28 March 2009 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

The vinyl was out years ago on Conspiracy, is it being reissued?

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 28 March 2009 12:20 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, their site says that Grandeur Of Hair will get a cd/vinyl reissue, and a vinyl reissue of Folklore of Moon. And also a cd reissue of Heaven Of Animals. No concrete dates though.

van smack, Saturday, 28 March 2009 13:17 (sixteen years ago)

Also, this quote:
NEW MATERIAL: EPs, SPLITS, TAPES & MORE THIS YEAR & NEXT

van smack, Saturday, 28 March 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)

they dont have internet access though, so that's probably the same message that's been up for months.

GOSLINGS/ WARMTH "heaven of animals" CD ARCHIVE 50 Originally released as a 5 track small run collaborative CD between the Goslings and Roxanne Jean Polise recorded in 2004-05. The current resurrection of this release features 4 of the original tracks with an actually proper mastering job from James Plotkin. The backend of the disc features 4 new traxs that were cultivated between the Goslings and Warmth (name change for the mid-west Steev Thompson) between 2007-08. Eight tracks in total of shimmering clouds of glass shards that swirl everywhere around you all coated with a lightly sprinkled malaise of Leslie's haunting vocals. A bit more abstract and less song structured than other Goslings works with an angling towards a droning approach, none the less the quality of the audio is extremely high. Comes housed in hand silkscreened (brokenpresses) 2.5 panels sleeves slipped inside of heavy 10mil custom made vinyl sleeves specially sized for archive releases. (pressing of 500 copies) $12.50 postpaid in the US international orders check shipping charges

Reissue

GOSLINGS "grandeur of hair" CD archive 23 The first CD released on archive that represented something beyond cult live documentation. A release thought by many to be the Goslings signature work to date. Holocaustic analog tape over saturation admixed with primitive drums beats washed over subtly played delicate melodies scattered with undercurrents of hypnotic female vocals. Out of print for the past few years repressed and hand silkscreened by Broken presses once again in all its hot pink on black glory. (pressing of 500 copies) $12.50 postpaid in the US international orders check shipping charges.

Yep.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 24 October 2009 18:28 (sixteen years ago)

Got the old/new Goslings & Warmth collaboration in today's mail. Just put it on, first track is glorious droning feedback and rumbling low end, a discomforting bliss. Ooooh, creepy vocals coming up through the mix, reverbed, echoing, fading away. I love this band.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

just got the reissue of Heaven of Animals and holy fucking christ, the new tracks are amazing. The heaviest, beatific psychedelic doom, like being slowly crushed underfoot by a Godzilla-sized Angel of Death. These guys should be world famous or at least headlining ATP. my favorite underground band by far.

black lightning light (herb albert), Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:20 (sixteen years ago)

I heard from a solid source they are on "Hiatus". I'm not sure what the difference is between a hiatus and not hearing from them until some new product appears out of the blue, but the idea that they aren't conspiring right now to blow my mind again is not a happy one.

Did Goslings break up or disappear or something? There seems to be no indication (at least on the intertubes) that they remain extant as a musical entity.
