Where is the love for..... Possum Dixon?

Brought to mind by the Vampire Weekend song "Boston," which opens up sounding much like "Regina" from the first PD album.

Medium-sized radio hit "Watch that Girl Destroy Me" uncharacteristic of their hectic, proclamatory, clanging sound -- objectively very pretentious but it all works, at least on the first two records. They didn't really sound like anybody and nobody really sounded like them. "In Buildings," "She Drives," "Elevators," "Emergency's About To End," "General Electric" all standouts.

Trivia: frontman Rob Zabrecky now in a magician supergroup with David Lovering.

I love "Watch the Girl Destroy Me."

Fun enough live, I remember.

I mean, it was probably the era, but that song mostly reminded me of other alt-rock bands that had sort of a Southern, country-ish sound, like Blind Melon or Cracker.

Totally right, but the rest of the album doesn't sound anything like that! It's all atonal out-of-tune piano, yelling, lines repeated ten or twenty times in a row, etc.

for some time around 1996 or 97 they seemed to the openers for every show i went to in LA. i think i enjoyed them but i never got around to further investigating.

I liked their first album a lot, mostly for Pharmaceutical Itch (why not mentioned here? Best tune for the band), but the second album was really boring as shit except for Summertime, which was kinda boring but had a catchy riff.

Also, they were one of three bands championed by my coworker Chris, the other two being Planet Melvin and Spoon. At one point, it looked like Possum Dixon had the best hope out of the three.

six years pass...

Ha ha I started this same thread twice! Anyway, just stopping in to say it's 2014 and I'm listening to the s/t debut and it's just as good as it always is.
