Los Super Reyes performing the Jackson 5 en espanol on the Premio Nuestro Awards on Univision the other night.

Backstory: This boyband group was put together by keyboardist/producer Cruz Martinez after the Kumbia Kings that he was part of broke up after he and bassist/keyboardist A.B. Quintanilla, also from that group, feuded and battled over Quintanilla's allegations that Martinez allegedly embezzled Kumbia Kings profits. Quintanilla and Martinez were both previously in the late Texas singer Selena's band. Quintanilla has since started the Kumbia Allstarz.

I like it (plus it's hard to ruin that song) although I see that Jordan Levin in the Miami Herald said about the Premio Nuestro show that Premio can reduce everything to slick formula -- three years after Daddy Yankee blasted reggaeton onto the show, it's presenting boy band Los Super Reyes, doing bouncy versions of Michael Jackson's I Want You Back and mariachi classic El Rey.

Levin in the Herald did not say anything about Wisin y Yandel on the show doing a number with rockets,space ships, and girls dressed as martians. That was more fun 'slick formula'
