Does anybody know you're here?
This house of ill-repute
(Ooohh honey I'm scared of u)
Tryin' 2 deal with all your fears
I guess this is what u get 4 being cute
(Cute, cute)
Soaked in banana cologne
No wonder you're all alone
It's written all over your face
You're just-a rock hard in a funky place

Eazy, Sunday, 24 February 2008 07:46 (eighteen years ago)

toss-up in all kinds of ways, but "bob george" was the most fun in concert, with the police car and all.

tipsy mothra, Sunday, 24 February 2008 09:34 (eighteen years ago)

Best music, best lyrics, best performance are all different songs on this one. Hard to decide. Maybe his most consistent record, though?

Eazy, Sunday, 24 February 2008 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

this is your conscience, motherfucker!

Lawrence the Looter, Sunday, 24 February 2008 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Why can't we just dance? Why can't we just dance?

Eazy, Monday, 25 February 2008 05:04 (eighteen years ago)

''Prince? That skinny motha-f---k with the high voice? Please.''

Easy. Bob George by a mile.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 25 February 2008 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

Hard, because there are so many good songs here, but I also remember getting my mind blown the first time I heard "Bob George."

Fun fact: I paid a fuckload of money for this record when it was new & impossible to get ahold of.

J0hn D., Monday, 25 February 2008 05:27 (eighteen years ago)

does "when 2 r in love" work better here or on lovesexy? i can't decide. its vibe is more in line with lovesexy, but it makes for a nice changeup on the black album.

tipsy mothra, Monday, 25 February 2008 05:42 (eighteen years ago)

i don't even remember how i first got the black album. it was a cassette copy, i think i must've bought it at a record fair when i was in college.

tipsy mothra, Monday, 25 February 2008 05:44 (eighteen years ago)

(always loved the bootleg cassette dudes at the record fairs)

tipsy mothra, Monday, 25 February 2008 05:44 (eighteen years ago)

I bought my copy on my 18th birthday (8/7/88). Was working on a play in NYC and went to see Road with Kevin Bacon and Joan Cusack at La MaMa Etc. and then found it for sale on the street somewhere near St. Marks Place. Bought the normal-bias cassette for $10 (high-bias was $15).

The cassette was two-sided, like an album. "When 2 R in Love" makes a great closing to Side A, with "Bob George" opening Side B.

First time I heard "Bob George" was around the time I was listening to a lot of early blues, like Robert Johnson singing "You're gonna diiiie" in "Ramblin' On My Mind", so in that context BG definitely seemed like a 12-bar-blues murder song.

Eazy, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

Bob George!

only sore spot is Dead On It.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

I refuse to think of it as "Bob George" - my old crap cassette copy listed it as "Bob, Ain't That A Bitch" and that's good enough for me. Actually my favourite at the time was "2 Nigs" just because I was listening to a lot of funk-fusion in those days. Not so these days.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 3 March 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

"Cindy C" for the vocal fireworks in the second verse and the screen saver-worthy insertion of "Music is the Key."

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 3 March 2008 00:28 (eighteen years ago)

Cindy C is great indeed. I also love Le Grind and of course, Bob George. what a great album. Dunno if I could pick one over the other between LoverSexy and this one...

AleXTC, Monday, 3 March 2008 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

U No, this album was ditched 4 a reason, http://home.online.no/~geirs1/eye4.gif reckon.

"When 2 R In Love" is obviously the best thing in here.

Cute, Geir!

two years pass...

I downloaded this off kazaa in HS and thought I scored some incredibly obscure and hard to find Prince album. Bob George was an instant favorite, was quoting that mess all over the place and Bob George is my fake name for filling out forms online so really the song has done a lot of things for me.
