Based upon a Norwegian movie soundtrack ("Mannen som elsket Yngve" - translates as "The Man Who Loved Yngve") that is such a great and essential collection of 80s (and thereabouts) new wave and indie that it deserves a poll.

There are a few central acts lacking here (Joy Division, The Smiths, Depeche Mode - probably for licensing reasons), but generally this is such an excellent compilation that I felt it deserved a poll. Obviously the best Norwegian movie soundtrack ever.

The Norwegian tracks may be unknown to most people here, but from a Norwegian viewpoint, they are just as essential as the rest. Virtually all of the most important Norwegian punk/new wave/indie/underground rock bands of the 80s are represented here.

My favourite track here is "Ghosts", but I voted for "In Dieser Stadt" because the Norwegian stuff will get generally few votes, and because it is a brilliant track that has been unavailable on CD for almost 20 years.

Btw. there are also three tracks at the end that I omitted from the poll because they are newly recorded songs by the band the movie is about.

Based on the title alone, I totally thought Geir started a thread about himself.

Stavangerensemblet – Kan’kje finna fingen

We used to rinse this tune back in the day. Big tune, lot of great memories.

Sorry, Oskar, but it seems they didn't include any Ebba Grön, Imperiet nor Dag Vag. :)

I want to hear the Norwegian tracks!

AAAACK! "The One I Love!" Positively HORRIBLE.

No offense to any Norwegian bands I've never heard of, but I voted for "Tainted Love" . . . my psychedelic-oriented, proggy brain always heard the spooky keyboard line and interpreted it as some kind of newfangled "96 Tears," or some kind of proto-prog.

This is what happens when no one gives a flying fuck about the poll, the Stone Roses always win by default.

(See also Luxembourg vs Liechtenstein FITE poll, which was won by She Bangs The Drums despite it not having been an option)
