j/k

So, is this guy like the male (well...) Ultragrrrl?

StanM, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

ultragrrrl is a paragon of musical astuteness and relevance compared to this insufferable turd

jamescobo, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

also, can it be considered payola when Perez inevitably starts using his blog as a promotional vehicle for these bands? what if he ONLY uses it for the bands he signs?

jamescobo, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

i'm not mad @ this, really.i mean he's just gonna end up being an abject failure like any other younger person tabbed to change the record biz (ultragrrl, sickamore etc.). if warners or perez think that they are gonna make money off of him sitting on his fat ass waiting for anonymous commenters/fangirls to send him an mp3 of 2009's winehouse they are beyond kidding themselves. maybe working your ass off and going to 9 shows a week isn't the way for an a&r to work anymore but just having a "good ear" (if perez even has that) isn't really the way either, esp. when there are a hundred thousand ears trying to break internet bands. and that's besides the fact that in the u.s. there isn't a single lily allen in the uk-like success story of turning a high friend count into meaningful record sales. 2.8 million pageviews a month /= 2.8 million records sold, and if the ppl at warner are assuming that they might be dumber than we all think.

If I see another TV/Radio show where this Perez guy 'pops up' and various Amy/Kelly/etals go "ooh, hello..." and Perez in return goes "oh, she's my friend.."

then I shall be moved to say "I feel a bit disappointed in Amy/Kelly/whoever".

Smaller tits, as well.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

Slightly off topic, but did anyone else see Ultragrrl's blog post where she bitched about how chubby she was in her early "slut phase"? The first worthwhile thing she's ever posted.

His site has definitely turned me on to a couple good tracks and he did a post about New Buffalo recently.

I've actually been thinking about this ever since I first read this yesterday - would Flo Rida count? Or was "Low" developed in the marketplace traditionally? (I honestly don't know how "Low" was promoted - by the time I'd even heard of it, it had already become ubiquitous.)

of course, we all know that Perez is only even tentatively aware of one rapper anyway:

i think the closest thing we've got to her in the us is colbie callait, but even though she had a hit single i don't think she's moved that many units. flo rida wasn't really made on myspace not was his stuff self-produced/undiscovered, i mean it's not that hard to get t-pain on your hook nowadays but still.
