Anybody out there remember the 90s metal mag LiveWire?

Not sure, but I think LiveWire might have been a metal spinoff of the 90s version of Creem.

I think the editor of LiveWire was Mike Smith -- Smith (I think) was the editor or an editor at the last version of Creem (early to mid 90s)

It was a pretty good metal magazine -- on par with RIP. This was all before what we have now in Decibel and Revolver.

I think Brian O'Neill was a contributing writer. Martin Popoff did stuff for them.

Anybody remember LiveWire? Anybody know what Mike Smith might be up to these days?

two years pass...

Found this thread with a vanity search... Livewire was fun. My first job with editing responsibilities. Did a lot of things I am very proud of, including exposing metal fans to loud non-metal music at a time when there was a lot of loud to go around.

Mike "Poser" Smith (called because when he and Pat Prince started the mag, he liked the glammy stuff and they wanted it to be like the Kerrang! where Kelv Hellrazer had a niche doing the glammy stuff) is still in Connecticut, I believe. He edits an adult magazine and puts metal bands in it, or at least did last I heard a few years ago.

Martin took over my album review section there and we became online friends when Smith got a copy of "Riff Kills Man."

And it was published by the same folks who did Creem. Though it was unrelated otherwise, a few folks wrote for both of them including Mike and myself. Both magazines died owing me many thousands of dollars I would never see.

Lots of good times back then. Always broke but always found a way to have fun anyway.
