Is the Mothership still worth paying money to see this many years on?

yah! he comes out only a bit but the players are cracked out and funky as hell. mike hampton is killer guitar. dont go to watch go to stand up front and dance.

They were mediocre in Long Beach, although "Maggot Brain" was pretty damned moving. Overall, though, I'm glad I didn't pay to get in.

i enjoy watching gary schide, frank cash waddy, billy bass nelson, michael hampton and whoever decides to show up that night play my favorite pfunk songs.
― chaki, Friday, 29 February 2008 11:00 (eighteen years ago)
be prepared for 30 minute versions of everything.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Friday, 29 February 2008 11:06 (eighteen years ago)
its hit and miss altho chaki is OTM about the lineup. I could kinda watch Billy Bass and Mike Hampton play anything. But at the end of the set when the roadies come out and start playing Chuck Berry covers uh time to leave
― Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 29 February 2008 16:59 (eighteen years ago)
I had no idea Billy Bass was still performing. Does he sing still?
I saw them maybe 10 years ago and the repertoire mostly stayed in the Mothership Connection mode with diversions into a bit of Maggot Brain (always great) and 30 minutes of "Dope Dog" (ugh).
― Sparkle Motion, Friday, 29 February 2008 18:10 (eighteen years ago)
Jeez, they're showing their age. When I saw them (1989) it was ONE HOUR versions of everything.
― Sara Sara Sara, Friday, 29 February 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
why would you go to a pfunk show and not expect 30 minute versions of everything? they have been doing that since the 70s. dumbass.
― chaki, Friday, 29 February 2008 20:23 (eighteen years ago)
is he playing the doo wop set? that's what he played in england late last year (i interviewed george, he was ace http://www.buddyhead.com/2007/12/04/begging-for-pussy-with-george-clinton/)
― stevie, Friday, 29 February 2008 20:38 (eighteen years ago)
hey dumbass, i dont mind 30 mins of everything - i have dozens of p-funk bootlegs. but when i saw them last time (around 2002 i think) i didnt find the band that interesting or exciting. they did a first hour of slow meandering jams that vaguely resembled p-funk songs, and saved the best for the last half hour or so when george came on, and they did 'the hits' and some cool rock n roll covers. plus, george is so frail and old now, he barely appears, and when he does, you feel a bit bad for him just cos he IS so old and frail. or at least i did.

hm okay, i'm convinced, sounds like a pass, especially at moscow prices

George Clinton live in 2008 2010?
Anyone seen him lately?

He's coming to Austin in a couple weeks. Never seen him, trying to decide whether it's worth $25 and a Wednesday evening.

I would only go if I could verify who's currently in his touring band. George himself is pretty past his prime, sorry to say.

He's at the 930 Club tonight. Weird karma today--I went to the funeral service for David Mills (who had published the Uncut Funk zine dedicated to P-Funk years ago before Mills left the world of journalism and began writing for tv shows including Treme). Also there was an article in today's Washington Post about the long-lost mothership that they used on tour way back when:
