The Reverend, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:17 (seventeen years ago)

I'm putting in for "Nigga What", but I could just as easily take "Big Pimpin'", "She's a Bitch", or "So Anxious".

The Reverend, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:19 (seventeen years ago)

1. big pimpin
2. are you that somebody
3. nigga what, nigga who
4. hot boyz
5. lobster & shrimp

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)

vintage jay on lobster & shrimp

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:30 (seventeen years ago)

also you owe me

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

2000-20001 is gonna be fucking impossible

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:39 (seventeen years ago)

Ginuwine - None of UR Friend's Business

i dont know why but i was drawn to this

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:39 (seventeen years ago)

xp: Yeah, I know. Eighteen-thousand years of Timbaland is a lot to choose from.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:40 (seventeen years ago)

lazy

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:42 (seventeen years ago)

I wasn't trying to zing you.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:43 (seventeen years ago)

"What's So Different" is the shit, I'm voting for that. This isn't as hard as I thought it would be, this is probably an era when he had as many great album cuts as singles.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:44 (seventeen years ago)

TRIPPIN. STILL ONE OF THE CRAZIEST TIMBO BEATS EVER.

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:30 (seventeen years ago)

this is ridiculously tough though, I mean "So Anxious" "All N My Grill" "Hot Boyz" "Make It Hot" "Cheers 2 U" "None Of Ur Friends Business" "Are You That Somebody"... GOD DAMN. Great stretch.

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:31 (seventeen years ago)

all of the songs i mentioned are 5 Stars and I could've really voted for any of them.

but yeah "Trippin" because it's really underrated and the beat is still crazy/jarring to this day.. would not sound out of place on radio right now. This is really the period I feel in love with Timbo, "All N My Grill" was like my alltime favorite song in elementary school I used to play it over and over on my walkman and sing-along to Nicole Wray's ridiculous vocal riffs (CAN U PAY MY BIIIIIIIIIIEAHALALIIIIIIIIIILLLLLZ)

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:40 (seventeen years ago)

Love the Godzilla sounds on "What's So Different?" but "Are You That Somebody" is maybe his finest moment.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:44 (seventeen years ago)

nah, that song is kind of played-out.

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:45 (seventeen years ago)

it is but fuck it its awesome

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:49 (seventeen years ago)

i was thinking today that the beat on dream's 'luv songs' sounds kinda like a tim beat from this era

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:51 (seventeen years ago)

maybe that's why brainwasher likes it so much

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:51 (seventeen years ago)

I actually never liked "Are You That Somebody" until quite recently.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:52 (seventeen years ago)

Nas - You Won't See Me Tonight

this song was hot

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:55 (seventeen years ago)

man this ginuwine record is one of my top ten ever or some shit
so good

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:56 (seventeen years ago)

put your TRRRRUST! in me girrrrrrl

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:56 (seventeen years ago)

xpost you;re right it does. but really, the whole album is very ginuwine (so is futuresex/lovesounds for that matter) and would probably be better if he was singing it (ditto fs/ls). poor ginuwine.

"are you that somebody" is a great song obv, but unlike other overplayed songs from back then that I can still listen to now, that one still feels played out to me. like, I can listen to "the boy is mine" now and be like DAMN even though it was played out when it was first released, but "are you that somebody" is like.. I'd rather just listen to all of aaliyahs other awesome songs.

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:57 (seventeen years ago)

I've actually never heard the ginuwine album in it's entirety, I just know the singles. I need to get on that.

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:57 (seventeen years ago)

yeah 'falsetto' is basically a ginuwine song

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

esp in the drums i think

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

'are you that somebody' has sustained itself for me because its still fun as hell to dance to

I've actually never heard the ginuwine album in it's entirety, I just know the singles. I need to get on that.

^^cosigned

The Reverend, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 07:04 (seventeen years ago)

i need to drag that cd out right now

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 07:07 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, in "Are You That Somebody?" when she says "are you responsible?" and then baby sounds form part of the beat as a kind of musique concrete omen? Just awesome.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 07:12 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah 100% Ginuwine is an amazing album - although I think Da Real World is slightly superior. "Final Warning"!!!

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 07:16 (seventeen years ago)

Get On the Bus is underrated genius.

chap, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 10:39 (seventeen years ago)

1. big pimpin
2. are you that somebody

Euler, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 13:31 (seventeen years ago)

"Get On The Bus" is impossibly great.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 13:38 (seventeen years ago)

Are you that somebody is still one of the only songs from the 9+s that Still sends chills down my spine..one of timbaland's and aaliyah's shining moments.

Christyles, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'd be fine with many of these but I still find myself singing "I got what you want (ah really), got what you neeed" at the most random of times so I've go to go with "Make It Hot".

I guess buying every individual song and making your own collection is entirely possible, but I still wish there was like a 3 cd collection of the best of Timbo. Of course he's still adding to it by the year, but you know.

matt2, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

I had never even heard of "Get On the Bus" until I saw this poll.

musically, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

Check it out on YouTube before you do anything else.

chap, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

favorite timbo beat from this era tho is 'u cant resist'

juvenile's entrance is :O

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

gettin paid thats whats my object'

deej, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 16:42 (seventeen years ago)

is that yo bitch

so sinister

andrew m., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 17:00 (seventeen years ago)

U Can't Resist is huge.

I'd say Da Real World is the most consistently exceptional album Tim's had a hand in. The edges are a bit rougher than some his later stuff, but the barrage of ideas is astonishing.

chap, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

somehow I managed to be that crusty old dork who hated Big Pimpin' back in the day, but now it's so far out ahead of all of the other (extra-super-mega-mega great) songs in this poll that it isn't even really funny anymore.

jamescobo, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Whoops, I meant 3:34.

Bodrick III, Monday, 10 March 2008 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

lol at all the early Destiny's Child vids...coordinated outfits, large monochrome futuristic room, choreography with lots of panto/charades/voguing

musically, Monday, 10 March 2008 01:04 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah they're great!

Bodrick III, Monday, 10 March 2008 01:09 (seventeen years ago)

glad I voted for what I did

The Reverend, Monday, 10 March 2008 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

Shiiiiiiiiiit, "Get On The Bus" has a sweet beat! I can see why it languishes in obscurity (the beat really overshadows anything Beyonce & co are doing) but it's a worthy track. Thanks ILX.
