DJ Andy Kershaw has been returned to jail, three days after being released.

The 48-year-old, originally from Rochdale, served 44 days in prison in the Isle of Man for harassment against the mother of his two children.

He was arrested near his home in Peel on the Isle of Man on Monday afternoon on suspicion of a further breach of a restraining order.

Mr Kershaw, a former BBC Radio 1 DJ, is to appear at the High Bailiff's Court in Douglas on Tuesday.

He has two children, a 10-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter, with his former partner Juliette Banner.

Mr Kershaw, of Shore Road, Peel, was released from Victoria Road prison on Friday but was arrested on Monday.

Let it go, mate.

he and his ex live in the same very small town on the same very small island... he kind of needs to leave.

painful

oh, I refer you to the "reviled" thread on ILE..

Mark G, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 15:02 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe he wants more time with his kids (and maybe needs a new lawyer who will help him find a better way than his current methods to get that time).

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

Isle of Man not the place for enlightened legal judgements methinks

Tom D., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

his account of the prison experience is pretty grim:

They changed your bedding once a week.

Better service than you get in my house...

The lights were controlled from outside and switched off at midnight even if you happened to be reading or writing.

The horror! The horror!

Nice of the papers to get the wife's perspective on all this.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 10:34 (seventeen years ago)

painful to watch.

i used to listen to the guy religously when he had a back to back show with peel on radio 1. he introduced me to tonnes of great african music.

World music DJ and professional Northerner goes bonkers in the Isle Of Man. Keep thinking of a prospective Fall song whenever I hear about this.

amusing fact: i'm going to the isle of man next week. so technically andy will be only the second hardest man, for a few days.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:08 (seventeen years ago)

Why do Tory cunts like the Isle Of Man? Is it a tax haven like Jersey?

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

Think you've answered your own question there, CP.

I shudder to think what else the IoM might have in common with Jersey.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:14 (seventeen years ago)

tax haven & errrrrrrrrrr dunno

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

Isle of Man? They like to beat children. Don't they still have the birch? Until recently it was illegal to be gay. They cut the tails off their pet cats and tell outsiders they're born that way (yeah, right).

For some time now I have wanted to know if Nigel Mansell arrested anyone for being gay when he was a copper on the Isle of Man

"ARSE! FECK! BHUNDUS!"

Mark G, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

I suppose Andy Kershaw lives there because he likes the motorbike racing once a year.

You wouldn't really expect anyone to get over their mental health issues in prison though. At least not in 44 days.

Hmmm... not sure what I'm advocating here.

PJ Miller, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:13 (seventeen years ago)

with that 'stache, he'd strongly suspect himself!

yeah. apparently him, peely, and someone else used to go to the races each year and eventually they started to like the place.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

Surprised that Kershaw's old Radio 1 girlfriend-beating Tory mate Bruno Brookes isn't living there.

If John Peel had beaten his wife, that would have made him a child-assaulter, surely? Different crime.

That made me laugh for the first time today. Thanks. Off to bed now
