Debuts in beta on April 7. It piqued my interest because I miss the early days of MTV, when videos looked like they were home-made and loose and random and far more interesting than the product I generally see now (when I see music videos at all). Think this concept will work? What features and/or content would you want to see in it?
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:42 (eighteen years ago)
within a year it'll all be indie reality shows. "america's next scarf," with colin meloy and wes anderson.
― tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)
please be kidding
― Preview of the Matrix 12, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:07 (eighteen years ago)
LOL. "Pimp My Latte" hosted by The Shins and "Your Loud Voice Is Oppressive; Please Stop Oppressing Me," hosted by Sufjan Stevens.
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:11 (eighteen years ago)
Nooooooooooooo...
― Bodrick III, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)
i think this seems pretty cool tbh. i mean, if you don't like the music pitchfork covers and/or the site in general is it really any skin off your back? it makes tons of sense that they would start doing this instead of linking away from their site to other people that do. def. looking forward to it.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:30 (eighteen years ago)
will there be a day in the life of the clipse one where the p4k news team learns to cook crack?
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:31 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah. I was kidding above. I think it could be good. Look, they'll feature concert films, music DVDs, and videos from independent artists, who don't get enough exposure from a good, central platform, despite the many different means of distributing their video work. I want to see it.
I still want them to do a show called "Your Loud Voice Is Oppressive; Please Stop Oppressing Me," hosted by Sufjan Stevens. A daily video diary!

VICE'S TV DID SO WELL GUYS
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:38 (eighteen years ago)
Did it? It's still going, I suppose. That interview with Kevin Sheilds was pretty good.
― Bodrick III, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:39 (eighteen years ago)
vic e in north korea is funny
― danbunny, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, but who logs onto vice's website everyday?. i guess the only answer to that would be "jerk off's"
― Creeztophair, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 23:10 (eighteen years ago)
apparently they're already smoking it; why else would they like Sufjan Stevens?
― stephen, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, I'm kind of looking forward to this too. If nothing else it'll be cool to tune in when there's nothing better to do to catch a few videos or something. I think the idea of doing one music movie/DVD a week is really cool too.
― jonathan - stl, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 02:00 (eighteen years ago)
they had a story on cnn
― mizzell, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 02:43 (eighteen years ago)
Vice TV has had some pretty cool features, aside from those videos of 20 year old Pratt chicks posing for nude photos for all the coke they can fit in one nostril.
― burt_stanton, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 05:56 (eighteen years ago)
Schedule Announced! Excitement is building!
(Actually, sarcasm aside, I think this could be good.)

oh lol, now random googlers will know who nabisco is! oh well.
― elan, Monday, 31 March 2008 23:30 (eighteen years ago)
omg vice.tv is the best place u ass faces
watch this amazing thing abt homeless kids living in the sewers of bogota
― jhøshea, Monday, 31 March 2008 23:36 (eighteen years ago)
The feature about the Colombian zombie coke stuff was neat too. The loco dealer was the real life version of the dude from Preator 2 who's all like 'the SCORPION is readyyy'
― gnarly sceptre, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 11:05 (eighteen years ago)
vice news features r indeed rad but too long. get one editor.
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 12:55 (eighteen years ago)
If people think the reviews and features are too long, can video of same change their minds?
― fukasaku tollbooth, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 13:14 (eighteen years ago)
Needs a "The Springer Hustle" style behind-the-scenes at Pitchfork reality show.
― Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 13:16 (eighteen years ago)
(fwiw - we're doing a thing at arthur world service dot com)
― jaybabcock, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 23:19 (eighteen years ago)
So the quality of the video is pretty impressive. Also, I like the functionality, user control, and easy navigation. I do miss "VJs," like from the old MTV days, but that's a minor gripe.
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 8 April 2008 03:15 (eighteen years ago)
the liars performances are pretty damn nice. also, thom yorke on drums!
― Creeztophair, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:28 (eighteen years ago)
did liars just do some weird cover that i would find intersting?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:32 (eighteen years ago)
it it me or is the interface really cool?
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:36 (eighteen years ago)
on the pitchfork thing? no. i have a bootleg somewhere, where they play "territorial pissings"
― Creeztophair, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:37 (eighteen years ago)
I swear I saw some o_O liars thing somewhere recently
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:41 (eighteen years ago)
the size of these videos is tiny. the size of the radiohead one is like 12 meg. and it looks damn good.
― phantompenguin, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:48 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah. I like how the background stuff zips by as you click new options on the top bar (e.g., "News," "Music Videos," "Live Performances").
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:48 (eighteen years ago)
I was trying to find this thread earlier to complain about the really choppy video. Even when I paused and let it load the full video (any video), upon hitting play it was like a slideshow.
Then I went back to it later in the evening and it played just fine. People give Pitchfork a lot of shit, but this I think this is really cool, a good idea and executed well.
― Z S, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:49 (eighteen years ago)
I like this. I really enjoyed the Jay Reatard clips.
― Hurting 2, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:51 (eighteen years ago)
There's some program featuring A Place To Bury Strangers starting later this week that also look interesting. Concert footage, maybe? Anyway, so far this Pitchfork.tv thing looks aces.
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 8 April 2008 05:13 (eighteen years ago)
also much credit deserved for sound quality. I can't believe I didn't go to that (or any) Jay Reatard show.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 05:46 (eighteen years ago)
I like it.
― Roz, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 06:06 (eighteen years ago)
thank god. It's really hard to find music or music videos on the internet.
― nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 06:43 (eighteen years ago)
I heart this pitchfork site. The inteface is awesome yeh (I was scared that when I clicked on the news/this week only/contacts tab that the video would stop, and was pleasently surprised when it didn't) and the content looks terrific. No it's nothing particularly new, but if the content volume/quality is kep[t as high as it is at the moment then I can only see good things for it.
― The Wayward Johnny B, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 09:39 (eighteen years ago)
A lot of the links for music videos are mixed up a bit, especially as I scroll down further on the list of however many videos. Minor complaint, though, as I'd expect it to be somewhat buggy at this point. Watched the Pixies documentary last night (amidst working on mindless college work) and found it rather dull, to be honest. The documentary was all band footage, told nothing about why the Pixies were important and/or revolutionary and/or unique, why I should care that they got back together, etc. (And obviously, I didn't need to know those things as a big fan, but I can't see how the doc. would appeal to someone who isn't already familiar with everything Pixies related.)
― stephen, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 16:52 (eighteen years ago)
Brought back some memories though, having seen the reunion tour twice myself.
― stephen, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 16:53 (eighteen years ago)
those 'audition tapes' are pretty dumb
― deej, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 16:59 (eighteen years ago)
so that's what her out of the chromatics looks like...
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)
I'd imagine that if you read Pitchfork, you're gonna have a reasonable idea as to who the pixies are.
― The Wayward Johnny B, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)
But for people who are just into film, not necessarily the Pixies, it's a terrible documentary -- no interviews or information from anyone but the band members themselves, and even then, it's all smoke and mirrors. The impression I get is that Kim and David have drug addictions and Joey has a child, so they do the reunion tour for the money, and Frank's just along for the ride. There is plenty of support for this in the doc, and nothing to suggest otherwise.
― stephen, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
i'm interested in it because it's a band documentary, but i have basically never listened to the pixies.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
I quite like the Pixies when they bring teh melodies so I'll give the doc a listen tomorrow while I'm doing my ironing. I'm less excited about it now tho!
― The Wayward Johnny B, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

What's wrong with that impression?
― Z S, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)
It's not supposed to be a documentary detailing the rise and fall of the Pixies from day one until now. It's a film about a single tour, in 2004, and it is awesome for that.
― Davey D, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 21:32 (eighteen years ago)
xpost: I'll grant that it's a fine reason to reunite, but it's not the sort of reason that merits a documentary on the reunion tour.
― stephen, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 21:34 (eighteen years ago)
dudes next time you have a "secret session" of a band playing new versions of songs with classically trained musicians remember not to put some boring rote interview over the top of it thx
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)
Click "next video," Jordan! There are three chapters of the performances themselves.
― nabisco, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:43 (eighteen years ago)
i have vampire weekend even more, now that i know what dude's face looks like. the entire band look and sound like they're mother is a gap ad.
― Creeztophair, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:47 (eighteen years ago)
I think I'd probably hate them if they looked like your typical indie band, but the preppiness allows me to think they're okay.
― Granny Dainger, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)
*hate
― Creeztophair, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:59 (eighteen years ago)
oh thx nabisco.i was looking for some type of arrow or something. i must've missed it
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)
While I'm not holding out for anything really worth watching, anything that can't surpass Vice in quality should be destroyed and never spoken of again.
― mehlt, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 00:14 (eighteen years ago)
when you're watching the vid there is no "next video" option-- it doesn't appear until you are watching an individual song xpost to myself
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 April 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)
the vid= the interview
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 April 2008 00:25 (eighteen years ago)
these are great-- best thing on pitchfork tv so far
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 April 2008 00:28 (eighteen years ago)
these don't make me like this band any more, at all. i'm half-watching the Air documentary and that's pretty good, though.
― Jordan, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 00:35 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i can't imagine that they'd really change anyone's opinion about them, but if you already actively like the songs it's nice to hear the strings brought out and things like that

Apropos of nothing, but I think Pitchfork.tv has some good stuff available this week, e.g., some pretty interesting clips from the 2007 Pitchfork music festival and this "Athens, Ga: Inside and Out" film about the city's music scene.
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 20 July 2008 05:12 (seventeen years ago)
our new performance series set in a chapel in the middle of a Brooklyn graveyard
if this one doesn't have performances from black kids, tapes n tapes, tokyo police club, clap your hands say yeah etc then i think p4k tv should just be shut down
