I liked "Church" and "Ching-A-Ling" a lot at first but am now kinda over them. "Killa" might be the sleeper favorite. Don't know if the Trey Songz version of "Girl You Know" is an improvement or it was better off without him. The Cassie superfans will probably make her lame song the winner.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

"369" Cupid featuring B.o.B

and what, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

The Cassie superfans will probably make her lame song the winner.

is that the song tim posted in his year end thread? if so that song is the shit

regardless i dont know all of these so i will wait to vote

deej, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I might have to listen to the whole thing just to find out who "Bayje," "Montana Tucker" and "Jay Lyriq" are.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

haha i love that cassie song but ima cosign the dig anyway. the exposure did kinda sully it tbh

jay lyriq is t-pain's deputy weed carrier after tay dizm though, what kind of teddy penderazz superfan are you al! also i am voting for his and whoever sophia fresh might be's song, it is the kind of cutely inept bambi rubbish that oughta define this sort of venture

r|t|c, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

the exposure

meaning this soundtrack or tim's kudos haha

deej, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

there was a video for it. really highlighted the shitty 80s movie feel of the whole song.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

i hope the dj plays it at your wedding

deej, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

the wedding singer of songs, 4reals. nah tim's kudos was ok, then when yr tape stores started stocking it it felt like the usual glomming pall. this is why pat swayze got cancer people!

r|t|c, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

My sister-in-law is in this movie. o_O

HI DERE, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

this movie takes place a block from where I'm sitting right now, and I don't know anyone in it? it was kinda fun, though. briana evigan: would smash.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

uh that was supposed to be an exclamation point, not a question mark?

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

The news reporter = my sister-in-law (she's also on the local news in B-more, I think the ABC affiliate).

HI DERE, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

loool i was gonna make a dumb crack about her being greg evigan's daughter BUT SHE REALLY IS!!!

r|t|c, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know all the songs, but i thing "killa" is super duper awesome

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

Four words: "Boots with the FURRRRRR"

Spencer Chow, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

hardsonned for being who you actually are: happens here all the time, don't it? (xp)

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

i haven't heard the remix of "can't help but wait" but i'm gonna vote for it anyway

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 March 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

'is it you' is really good! i just lol at the cassie luv because imo she's one step away from hannah montana/aly & aj teenpop bs in terms of deriving much if any meaning from her songs so i always have to laugh/eye-roll at the obsessives

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 March 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

I like how the Onion AV Club described the remix w/ Plies by saying it was like Trey "doing a duet with the jerk he's singing about." (xpost)

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

goons 4 life

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 March 2008 18:31 (seventeen years ago)

what does this mean?

deej, Friday, 7 March 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

yeah the bs of teenpop bs has nothing to do with deriving "much if any" meaning that isn't there (NEWSFLASH: it's there) it's the blithe failure to consider whether the explanation of that meaning (or at least the manner of the explaining) is gonna do more harm than good, and yknow, carelessly strip the magic away and stuff. big-brained of mice and men lenny oaf motherfuckers! and yeah i don't exactly know why that should differ from any other expositioning on ilm but it does, doesnt it.

lol that onion rvw is so true though.

r|t|c, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

guess the question is if that then makes us georges or curlys

anyways what's killa about 'killa', i'm not hearing it

r|t|c, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

hardsonned for being who you actually are: happens here all the time, don't it? (xp)

-- Alex in Baltimore, Friday, March 7, 2008 5:47 PM (2 hours ago)

well-crafted stealth zing or random comment, WHO KNOWS

r|t|c, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

it's possible the song isn't that good and i'm being blinded by the video, which is easily my favorite synchronized-dancing-and-shiny-lights vid in a while. (xpost haha)

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

oh word that is a good video. i like how they filmed it in 5am lilac tint to make it even more explicit that they just jacked furtado 'say it right' for the intro

yeah that's nice, except the rap verse gives me some frightening Kid Sister flashbacks

!Alicia!, Thursday, 13 March 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

"Low" towers over all these songs.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 13 March 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

Ironically, I guess.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 13 March 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

oh wau "Lives In the Club" is dead srs

The Reverend, Saturday, 15 March 2008 06:57 (seventeen years ago)

There's my belated vote anyway. The Cassie song is close to, if not the, worst thing here.

The Reverend, Saturday, 15 March 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

Step Up 2: The Streets, follows Andie (Briana Evigan) as she pursues her dream of becoming a dancer. Andie is passionate about dancing and rehearses regularly with her 'crew', the 410, to keep the title of the illegal competition 'The Streets'. Andie's foster mother is tired of the crime and harassment by the 410 and tells Andie she will have to go to live with her aunt in Texas if she doesn't turn her life around. Andie's friend and older brother figure Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) persuades her to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts, where Andie receives a place. They also continue to engage in oral sex. They like to also get analy penetrated. It's like they're rabbits taking it fast and hard. OOOO fuck me please is what they always say. When Andie's studies come before the crew, the members are not happy and decide to drop her. Andie however has different ideas and forms her own crew to compete. Missy, joins the crew after dropping out of the 410 following Andie's removal. As this happens they continue to fuck each other's brains out. They enjoy it grealty and the guy even cums on her perfect little tits.

Jordan, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

Who else voted for Say Cheese?

Andy K, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

How am I the *only* person that voted for "Low"?!

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

because it sucks

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

Jordan, that synopsis is pretty accurate.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:51 (seventeen years ago)

http://i26.tinypic.com/2udyu5e.jpg

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

Really? I think it's a really fun track.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

This is a great movie, btw.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)

ha, i haven't seen the movie, just heard the soundtrack.

Jordan, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:10 (seventeen years ago)

i mean fun /= good necessarily. plus it seems like forced fun to me. the idea of flo rida having genuine fun while recording music seems pretty dubious to me.

chris brown dies in the movie btw

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

I liked the movie because Chris Brown wasn't in it, but I would've loved it if he was in it and died.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

Does he die during a sex scene (Rockefeller style!)?

Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

chris brown totally dies in this

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

oh no that's stomp the yard my bad

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

both movies are drumline rip offs and not 1/4 as good

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

i can watch drumline pretty much anytime, but i wouldn't want to listen to any of the music outside of the movie.

Jordan, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:20 (seventeen years ago)

i wouldn't want to listen to this shit either tho

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:20 (seventeen years ago)

cheerleading and marching band movies are the same genre, but dance movies are an entirely seperate, if similiar, genre.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

I liked Stomp Tha Yard. It was kind of like School Daze only not.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

Plus Chris Brown dies in it.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

fun /= good necessarily

This is a mystifying aspect of nu-ILM.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

the fun-haters have taken over, get used to it.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

Right, I forgot.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

those wearing boots with the fur will be first against the wall

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

I think that's actually a line in the song!

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)

Ha ha I didn't even vote in this. Between Cassie Fan Club and Space Battle Techno I'm really cranking up the dubious-meme-o-meter.

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 28 December 2008 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

p.s. lex, have you written much about the-dream's debut?

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Monday, 29 December 2008 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think so really...slept on it for ages, but it's one of those albums that i don't feel like i have anything to say about it. i didn't feel the conflict that others (rtc and deej?) said they did, prob b/c i hear a lot more role-play and carefully set-up staginess in it than any sense of the-dream as himself. so i don't feel particularly invested in him, it's more like appreciating an actor's craft. i prefer the tracks where he's doing prince to the ones where he's doing r kelly but it's all good (apart from 'falsetto', which needs to die).

thanks for the kc link! i shall check it out when not hungover.

This movie was hysterical. Best part was Kima yelling at her not-daughter (actually the daughter of BJ from BJ and the Bear?!?!) for dancing on trains and posting it on youtube (somehow I imagine the Baltimore PD does not spend a lot of time worrying about reckless train dancing, but maybe that was in Season 6 of the Wire.) "I know you've been dancing on trains! With masks! It's on the news now! DANCING ON TRAINS! That's it. I'm shipping you to Texas. Trains. What's wrong with you?"

Alex in SF, Thursday, 26 March 2009 03:49 (sixteen years ago)

never mind inverting usual movie logic by making the posh rich kids the heroes and the street kids the villains.

Roz, Thursday, 26 March 2009 04:01 (sixteen years ago)

Poor posh rich kids. Always so put upon.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 26 March 2009 04:05 (sixteen years ago)

Somehow missed Revolution. Might have to hunt down a cheap copy.
