Also, use this thread to talk about the fact that glitterkids are still a feasible social group in 2008.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

I suppose it's what happens when dudes who want to be on that new burlesque tip discover that they have no dress sense.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

Is Manic Street Preachers – “Umbrella” from Jo Whiley's acoustic live lounge or whatever it's called? That.

Bocken Social Scene, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

Look out for equivalent OTF thread on Club Poptimism in the near future.

Club Poptimism would do well to have a playlist like that, in fact.

The worst one is probably the Pipettes - a decent song before Mr 1983 Producer squeezed all the life out of it.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

I can't choose, because there are three manic street preachers tracks.

Why did you go to this event, Dom? It doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Of course I didn't fucking go to this event Pash.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

I know you think lowly of me, but surely not _that_ low?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

haven't heard Manics 'Umbrella' but it is obvious winner. most of the other songs are great.

I had this mental image of you noting down the tracks played, while scowling at the "beautiful people". I guess you must have pulled the playlist off their website :(

Well, presumably not, if this is his last club night!

Anyroad, I will always hate "Total Eclips" no matter what it's up against, pretty much.

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

Best rock drumbeat of the 90s, right?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

babies innit

electricsound, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

About half to two-thirds of these are okay songs but put together it is THE MOST BORING PLAYLIST OF ALL TIME.

I am assuming Placebo's version of Daddy Cool is the worst thing here. Actually Marilyn Manson is probably the worst thing here but I'm never going to hear it so I don't care enough to vote for it.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

Don't know half of these but hard to imagine much being shittier than the Pipettes. The use of the Muppets song is way shitty but not the song itself.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

MOBSCENE something something OBSCENE something something FIGHT SCENE

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

Having watched (a bit of) the youtube clip, I voted for "umbrella". What a useless plodder.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

His name is James, actually.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

Really this club night should have gone out with glittery fairy wings in at the end of the 90s.

I can't decide whether it's this or Los Campesinos cardigans-and-glockenspiels indie that has the worse aesthetic.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

get a load of la-de-da mr ubercool here

blueski, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

^^^CHALLENGING OPINION xp

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:27 (eighteen years ago)

Robots In Disguise – “Turn It Up”
Shiny Toy Guns – “Le Disko”

In my mind, these two records sound exactly the same (ie a bit like Bis). Am I correct?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

Bis if someone beat them over the head with a copy of Glamour magazine for two hours, maybe.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:31 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, I take it back: If it's up against "Holding out for a hero", that one.

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

Always get Shiny Toy Guns confused with "Shiny Disco Balls". Fortunately both are dreadful.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

Nothing personal, but frankly this playlist looks infinitely more entertaining than what I've heard at recent Club P nights.

Also, Los Campesinos! are fantastic you nutcase.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

i like Le Disko, the lyrics/vocals are, if you will, so bad, that they are, in fact, great

blueski, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

they're v Xenomanic

blueski, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

Actually replace anything post-2001 with Da Funk and a couple of shonky early mashups and you've basically got the Trash playlist from before Erol Alkan became Saviour Of Clubbing or whatever.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

Stick Take On Me in there as well.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

Robots In Disguise – “Turn It Up”
Shiny Toy Guns – “Le Disko”

Two of the very very worst groups of the last three or four years there, so they can share the spoils

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:43 (eighteen years ago)

If I was drunk and out with my mates, I'd have a grand old time lurching around to a good 2/3rds of that playlist (the Stay Beautiful one, that is). It's so reassuringly behind the curve!

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 12:32 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Does Simon Price still have the Keith Flint hairstyle and Oakley shades look going on?

Bodrick III, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yep

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:13 (eighteen years ago)

What a proper fucking DJ would play as a set:

The Beatnuts - No Escapin' This
Split Enz - Six Months In A Leaky Boat
Akinyele - Put It In Her Mouth
Capelton - Bun Dem Everyday
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
Fall Out Boy - Thnks Fr The Mmrs (for the chicks)

Easy.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:14 (eighteen years ago)

I always imagine him dropping "Firestarter", pointing to himself, and grinning like "I'm mad, I am!".

Bodrick III, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:17 (eighteen years ago)

That's pretty much what I imagine you doing after all of your posts, Bodrick III

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

LBZC, shd this be the "talk about pre-strokes, post-britpop indie/glitterkids" thread?

I don't think we have any other option xp

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 March 2008 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

the only shocking thing about that playlist is the absence of kenickie

J.D., Monday, 17 March 2008 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

Manic Street Preachers with Nina Persson - “Your Love Alone Is Not Enough”

^Just what everyone wants to hear at a disco. Along with three other Manics tracks, in between all the Placebo and lol Gary Glitter.

DavidM, Monday, 17 March 2008 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

SOMEONE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE DEMOGRAPHIC HERE.

Matt DC, Monday, 17 March 2008 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

wot no saint etienne o_O

also no 'stay beautiful', controversially.

am shocked and stunned this was still going in 2008. was probably shocked and stunned it was still going in 2003 tbh.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 17 March 2008 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

ahh, simon price, not stuart price.

now thread makes more sense. could totally imagine stuart price playing a few of these.

Crackle Box, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

I've seen Stuart Price DJ, and it was pretty much just straight up house and techno.

Bodrick III, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

Will Stuart Price pick his next playlist from the following?

Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen - Sukiyaki
Ned Miller - From A Jack To A King
Joe Brown and his Bruvvers - That's What Love Will Do
Spotnicks - Hava Nagila
Frank Ifield - Wayward Wind
Shadows - Foot Tapper
Richard Chamberlain - Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo
Maureen Evans - Like I Do
Steve Race - Pied Piper (The Beeje)
Frankie Vaughan - Loop De Loop
John Leyton - Cupboard Love
Ronnie Carroll - Say Wonderful Things
Bachelors - Charmaine

Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS DEMOGRAPHIC. That's a fact alright.

DavidM, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:45 (eighteen years ago)

eastern european teenagers, crepey young men in eyeliner, goths with richey manic fixations

braveclub, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

"have you seen them do you know them?"

blueski, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

Apparently at the last night they played a song for "A friend of ours who left 13 years ago". They weren't talking about Eazy-E or Dean Martin, sadly.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE DID YOU BURY HIM?

Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

IT'S GOOD!

Mark G, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

IT's basically done so it sounds like "If you tolerate this"

I doubt it's from JoWiley's live lounge.

And at least one, maybe two, voted without having heard it.

Mark G, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

lol i thought "the last 'stay beautiful' club night" meant the last one ever, but apparently shit is still goin strong...

If only I gave a shit about dressing up, I'd pop along.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

You could just walk into any one of the dozens of other indie clubs with a similar playlist?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

(There's a fairly big assumption there that they still exist, but these nights used to be two a penny)

Matt DC, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

But I haven't got any stripey French fisherman's jumpers.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

matt i think yr average indie club playlist these days would be more kaiser chiefs/klaxons/gossip, no?

i actually went to stay beautiful, years ago. pricey was trying to push things forward by mixing in a few neptunes tracks in between all the manics and kenickie, and clearing the floor every time...

braveclub, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

"Indie kids don't like black people" coming up on News At Ten...

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

We've certainly regressed since the early 90s when Eazy-E was pimping Tarrie B, that's for sure. Those were the days when gothtards and rap co-existed happily.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

Surely the Kaiser Chiefs are so unfashionable now that even the lowest common denominator indie disco would only play them if absolutely desparate?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

you're probably right matt.

braveclub, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

They haven't quite fallen to Carter USM status yet.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

I think they're about Stereophonics level.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

who voted for Ladytron?

blueski, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

in a weird way, it makes me happy that theres still a club for manics fans to blot out 99% of modern life.

i just hope I never accidentally go in.

or meet anyone who goes there.

or read this thread again.

Hamildan, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 17:10 (eighteen years ago)
