So you need to have a counterpart for:
Jeff Lynne George Harrison Tom Petty Bob Dylan Roy Orbison
so...I'm thinking:
Jeff Lynne = Dr. Dre (glossy producers, studio wizard, but Dre seems too big-time to be Jeff Lynne, so there's gotta be someone better) George Harrison = DMC (member of defining golden age breakthrough group) Tom Petty = Common? Talib Kweli? (looking for semi-throwback, respectable newer dude) Bob Dylan = Nas or Rakim? Roy Orbison = Grandmaster Caz?

or maybe slick rick would be a better roy orbison, more strange and sad, but i was looking for a tru-school first-gen guy....
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)
Chuck D could be Roy Orbison. Both have the voice
― kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

― and what, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)
Puff Daddy as Jeff Lynne.
Bob Dylan - CGI Tupac Shakur
― Cunga, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)
Dylan - Afrika Bambaataa (sp) Lynne - Rick Rubin?
― musically, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
The tom petty I think it's more important that he have a vocal style that is both iconic and laconic - MF Doom.
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
Jeff Lynne = Kool Keith George Harrison = Ghostface (maybe not golden age, but I prefer the analogy with Wu as Beatles and both showing up a little into the birth fo the genre) Tom Petty = Devin the Dude Bob Dylan = def. Rakim Orbison = Slick Rick works for me.
Also, I would pay good GOOD money to see this project. Let's make it happen fellas!

Wot about RZA is Jeff Lynne.
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)
keith isn't that much of a producer too, plus too "out there"
p-diddy is decent i think. but does he really "produce" in terms of studio stuff, cuz i think lynne is a real gearhead type dude...

THAT'S TOTALLY IT...perfect...of course then DMC would have to be Harrison, cuz we can't mix eras...
I guess I think of Run-DMC as the Beatles of rap....cuz they were def. second generation, big break from the true old school...like if Melle Mel/etc etc were elvis and them...
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)
Okay, but no one would argue that Dylan is Rakim right? Because now I wish he had been one of the 18 guys playing him in "i'm not there"
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)
Seems like Method Man would have to be in, to me
― Billy Pilgrim, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)
is=isn't
dylan = rakim seems like a lock to me
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)
wilbury dylan was at a relaxed stage of his career it seems.
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:01 (seventeen years ago)
rakim is most definitely not
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)
but dylan was sort of on the outs at that point, probably the low ebb of his career statuswise
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)
George Harrison RIP = Fat Pat RIP
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)
well i'm more concerned with his mindstate (knowing that you have money in the bank if you want me to be crude about it) and approach to being a cog in a supergroup.
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

Crooklyn Dodgers, guys.

west coast rap all stars
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)
Also, DMC blew out his voice years ago and can't rap like he used to. So it's have to be Run/George Harrison
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)
body and soul and def jef play dylan's hair iin a "i'm not there" stylee
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

I'd love to hear the TWs doing "We're All in the Same Gang."
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)
Honestly, why HASN'T there been an attempt to do this? Capitalize on the old-school cred of a bunch of legends in the same room, sell millions to 40-year-olds...who by the way probably are more likely to buy CDs anyway. Don't worry about trying to make it commercial for the kids, let them rap about whatever they want, probably the joys of fatherhood and mowing the lawn and stuff. It could be a great thing.

Yeah, most ppl in this thread sorta missed the point that 3/5 of the Wilburies hadn't had a hit record in 20 years
