I live with 3 musicians and ever since I obtained a position as a staffer at an alt weekly, ugh. In my exp so far, DUD. However, I grew up around musicians, pops played guitar in a latin funk band, moms sang in a Spanish doo-wop group (that's how they met) so i'm used to being around and getting along well w musicians but damn when it comes to any grounded opinion, very DUD. Anyone's got any good stories about being friends with musicians and making it work as a music journalist ?

im used to my prof's kicking my ass on my writing. too much of this or too little of that, or just plain rong. but try to tell that to a musician and whoa out comes the asshurt element.

My day job is a music journo ! Anyways, I'm new to this and I know there are veterans here who probably swing back their head and cackle at such pedestrian musings but... i live with these dudes. my solution so far has been to not talk about new music w them. but srsly are contemporary musicians so asshurt they can't deal ?

it's not like i talk about their music at all. im too smart for that. its more like i play certain albums as being great, etc. and they be like "that's whatevz". dude, roxy music's mother of pearl is not whatevz.
