I'm two guys, multiplied by ninety-three guys 2
We was playin for fun, now it's keeps 1
Maybe I'm the most thorough worker on the job to you 1
There ain't gon' be no revolution tonight 1
When overwhelmed and blessed, burst in tears of happiness0
You bust, Amadou Diallo is us, and what 0
Mentally cuffed, thrust by a cop thinkin he tough 0
Twice in a lifetime you combat the ghost of mistrust 0
Because once in a lifetime is rough 0
and ended up in a early grave 0
shootin dice on worldly ways 0
like my man Troy, who lost his days 0
"Once in the Life" I was trifle like that 0
I got a knife and a bat, to bust your brain, put a knife in your back 0
now I'm on my knees, beggin' "God, please! 0
Save me from the fires of hell! 0
Let water water soul prevail" - cos I can't take no more 0
Life! Somebody callin you insane 0
Emotional or reason, now which one do you obey? 0
Life! Your heart is one with your brain 0
and packin a tool, (fuck you) Mom Dukes it's cool 0
Poke an icepick, smokin that (shit) since preschool fool 0
Kids in the 6, they flip for nonsense" 0
Ask Book he saw it, "Yo black I ain't seen (shit) 0
and left in the garbage, now that's cold-hearted 0
Like my man Mark I beat to death wrapped in a carpet 0
Is that you, Pete from Cobb's Creek, who died in my sleep? 0
Who's that knockin, at, my door? 0
Drinkin her spit, when coppin a fix for dope bliss 0
Thug cat bangin this chick but won't kiss 0
Life long friendships so cha-o-tic 0
And men who glimpsed the darkness inside, but never faced it 0
And I've tasted, the bitter tragedy of lives wasted 0
Lost and they lost all they fight 0
Half of my warriors as high as a kite 0
if I said the blunt was like a baby pipe 0
but I guess I wouldn't be right 0
I smelled this malignerance addiction, 0
Turned original verbs into submission 0
of empty words without tradition 0
I've heard the mind is repetition, 0
appreciation of this mediocre nation 0
And it's a shame that most of y'all are followin sheep 0
Wallowin deeper than the darkness, you're fallin asleep 0
Yo, yo, I've seen relationships that's so sick 0
See they plan is to erase me, just to replace me 0
I'll rock, twenty-eight years before the Feds can lay a trace 0
vanish in six months, with no tears believe it 0
From nothin to two mill', in five years I'll live to see it 0
makes most of y'all hustle ya ass off 0
The fear of this beatdown, the women on no cash to floss 0
or maybe I'm the one, who was plottin to rob you 0
Evenly balanced seein evil equally in each eye now 0
that'll push the average to the edge and swan dive to death 0
I've seen and experienced things 0
I've seen true genius, too often to lose the meaningless 0

When they did the two minutes' silence however many days after 9/11 I was listening to Radio 1 at work and this song was the first thing they played after it was done. I just felt that maybe they should have either aimed for more gravitas or no gravitas at all

One of these guys is dead now, btw. So, y'know, pour one out.

I bought the album when it came out... It was kinda disappointing, though it had a few nice tunes alongside "The Things I've Seen". "TTIW", however, is one of the best rap singles ever, one of these examples of a mediocre group hitting every right note for one song, and never really managing to repeat the feat.

I'd love to vote for "there ain't gon' be no revolution tonight / half of my warriors as high as a kite" couplet", but since it's divided into two I'm not sure which half to choose.

"these" = "those"

Tuomas, Saturday, 15 March 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

And "TTIW" = "TTIS". I can't type.

Yeah, the "multiplied by 93 guys" line always baffled me. Also, when this song came out I was kinda mystified by the "let water water soul prevail" bit too, until I found out Water Water was the name of the rapper.
