Admittedly, this is based on just a few listens, but Dream Cars, by Neon Neon, is very catchy.

i think it's a little older than four months but "vicious attacks" by anemones is darn catchy

I like the new Destroyer disc a lot (again, based on early spins). Not sure which is the first single, but you can stream the whole disc at the Merge website. (BTW, the new one isn't as good as Rubies, but so what? Still v. good.)

It's been kind of a bleak year, so far, especially for "catchy rock."

It seems that way.. I was hoping maybe some people here knew something I didn't.

Seems to me this year's shaping up -- so far -- a little like 2006: Less "catchy" stuff, more "challenging" and/or "experimental" stuff. But who knows? That could be my tunnel-vision. It could be the fact that we're only in late March. Time will tell.

I think there's some kind of rule along the lines of the monkeys/typewriters thing that when 2 unimaginative morons write songs with similar titles the choruses will invariably end up sounding similar as well.

btw that metro station song is pretty cool esp when they drop out in the chorus but its not something im jamming in a d-_-b like matt armstrong or something, its just cool when to listen to when the r&b/rap stations are playing alicia keys or plies or something

Kinda weird thing about that Shinedown song; That could've EASILY been on KROQ rotation 2001-2003 (alongside Staind, Creed, How You Remind Me, etc) and would have sounded perfectly in place. I hadn't heard much modern rock since high school, but have there really been ZERO innovations over this entire decade?

nu-grunge is less the dominant flavor than it still was a couple years ago but really it will never die

In that one specific niche, that seems to be the case... that flavor being overwhelmingly American bar rock/biker rock, that which country fans may enjoy..
