Why must it be so difficult to find new catchy rock music? Can anyone help me on this please?

Aly, Walk With Me.

I'm stick of standing in line to clubs I'll never get in...
― Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:28 (eighteen years ago)
Even more than Daniel's suggestion, I'd say "You Want the Candy," also by the Raveonettes.
― If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:17 (eighteen years ago)
paramore misery business is this a good song y/n
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)
I was going to say I Know You Want The Candy, but I didn't think it was a single. Anyway, you're totally right about the song.
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:26 (eighteen years ago)
thrillpillow's "danz" is pretty motherfucking catchy. yow.
― Lawrence the Looter, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 05:25 (eighteen years ago)
Admittedly, this is based on just a few listens, but Dream Cars, by Neon Neon, is very catchy.
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:58 (eighteen years ago)
"I Told Her on Alderaan" by Neon Neon
― marc h., Tuesday, 18 March 2008 11:23 (eighteen years ago)
er, but neither of these Neon Neon tracks are singles, right?
― marc h., Tuesday, 18 March 2008 11:24 (eighteen years ago)
I thought Dream Cars was, but maybe I misread it. Which song is the first single?
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 18 March 2008 11:32 (eighteen years ago)
Either "I Lust You" or "Raquel" is the first single, I think. But neither are really "rock"y, per se.

Or anything else they choose to release from the BYOP album.
― DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 11:55 (eighteen years ago)
thank you so much everyone. are there any more???
i was going to name my band's next cd "The kelly affair." d'oh!
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:23 (eighteen years ago)
i think it's a little older than four months but "vicious attacks" by anemones is darn catchy
― electricsound, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:25 (eighteen years ago)
I like the new Destroyer disc a lot (again, based on early spins). Not sure which is the first single, but you can stream the whole disc at the Merge website. (BTW, the new one isn't as good as Rubies, but so what? Still v. good.)
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:26 (eighteen years ago)
i dont listen to current rock really but i thought that mgmt song sounded dope
― deej, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:33 (eighteen years ago)
Huh - I can't find any of these on any of the mp3 sample blog things.
― Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 10:56 (eighteen years ago)
The Last Shadow Puppets - "The Age of the Understatement"
Horrible band name, even worse song title. But a decent rock song I have to admit. (This is the him-out-of-Arctic-Monkeys and him-out-of-The-Rascals collab btw)
― Jeff W, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 13:17 (eighteen years ago)
Thanks for your recommendations.
Be your own pet- kelly affair. - I downloaded this. it's derivative shite. derlete.
'oh girl' by cut off your hands - on the other hand is ace. *That* is a tune
― Fer Ark, Thursday, 20 March 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)
Hang on - wrong tune . 'Still Fond' is the tune?
It's a D cross. Dismemberment Plan/Decendents.
I'm hoping that Cut Off Your Hands have heard of neither. Gives me hope
― Fer Ark, Thursday, 20 March 2008 00:53 (eighteen years ago)
That's it??!?!?
― billstevejim, Monday, 24 March 2008 00:54 (eighteen years ago)
It's been kind of a bleak year, so far, especially for "catchy rock."
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 March 2008 01:32 (eighteen years ago)
It seems that way.. I was hoping maybe some people here knew something I didn't.
― billstevejim, Monday, 24 March 2008 01:33 (eighteen years ago)
Seems to me this year's shaping up -- so far -- a little like 2006: Less "catchy" stuff, more "challenging" and/or "experimental" stuff. But who knows? That could be my tunnel-vision. It could be the fact that we're only in late March. Time will tell.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 March 2008 01:43 (eighteen years ago)
"The Kelly Affair" seconded.
― zeus, Monday, 24 March 2008 12:21 (eighteen years ago)
A hopeful bump.
― billstevejim, Sunday, 27 April 2008 20:16 (eighteen years ago)
great song, but most everything else on that Raveonettes album is catchier.
― stephen, Sunday, 27 April 2008 20:25 (eighteen years ago)
Paramore - "That's What You Get" Atreyu - "Falling Down" Nine Inch Nails - "Discipline" Foxboro Hot Tubs - "Mother Mary" Coheed And Cambria - "Feathers" Ludo - "Love Me Dead"
― Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 28 April 2008 05:12 (eighteen years ago)
Pete and the Pirates - "Come on feet"
― Snowballing, Monday, 28 April 2008 07:04 (eighteen years ago)
CSS "Rat Is Dead"
― billstevejim, Sunday, 10 August 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)
Flobots "No Handlebars"
Would the ting tings count as rock? If so their two singles 'shut up and let me go' and 'great dj' have been pretty big here in Spain and they're insanely catchy.
― Moka, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)
The Ting Tings count.
― billstevejim, Monday, 11 August 2008 02:01 (seventeen years ago)
ugh
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 August 2008 02:04 (seventeen years ago)
flobots and ting tings are so beyond awful
Catchy music is for the most part awful.
― Moka, Monday, 11 August 2008 02:30 (seventeen years ago)
also rong
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 August 2008 02:32 (seventeen years ago)
Flobots song sucks, but it's catchy.
― billstevejim, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)
And I hate Ting Tings.
― billstevejim, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)
Okkervil River's "Lost Coastlines" is new, a single, and catchy. Whether or not it's "rock" enough I have no idea.
― Simon H., Monday, 11 August 2008 19:39 (seventeen years ago)
i like that metro station song but it rips of rooney's "shakin" which is much better
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 August 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)
I think there's some kind of rule along the lines of the monkeys/typewriters thing that when 2 unimaginative morons write songs with similar titles the choruses will invariably end up sounding similar as well.
― some dude, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
ban anyone who likes Metro Station
― Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 August 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)
modern rock is dire as fuck right now and there hasn't been much catchy indie lately, i would still say like, los campesinos and be your own pet but that's older than 4 months
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 August 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)
btw that metro station song is pretty cool esp when they drop out in the chorus but its not something im jamming in a d-_-b like matt armstrong or something, its just cool when to listen to when the r&b/rap stations are playing alicia keys or plies or something
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 August 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
haha I love "Shake It". Anyone heard the album?
― Sundar, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)
Santogold "Lights Out"
― The Brainwasher, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)
yeah. Some of the psychier indie stuff has been rly good in 2008 but that's definitely a different realm from BYOP.
J0rdan you might like Duchess Says: http://www.myspace.com/duchesssays
― Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)
"Sequestered in Memphis"
― Hubie Brown, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:48 (seventeen years ago)
Santogold "Lights Out" This.
― Jazzbo, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)
Lights Out agreed. maybe MGMT's Kids if that counts.
― blueski, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)
"Lights Out" fourthed or fifthed or whatever.
― stephen, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 00:35 (seventeen years ago)
"stay positive" the song
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 August 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)
curtis this is awesome
also ida maria, "oh my god" is one of the best rock songs of the year
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 August 2008 00:40 (seventeen years ago)
No Age - Eraser Might be released a few days longer than 4 months ago but fuck it if it ain't catchy.
― Maxemillian, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)
catchy rock, where are you????
― billstevejim, Sunday, 30 August 2009 03:55 (sixteen years ago)
i'm not sure why 4 months got chosen.. seems kind of a random time frame.. i would be happy with anything from the past year
― billstevejim, Sunday, 30 August 2009 03:56 (sixteen years ago)
The Brontosaur "This Is Not A Paradise"Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Heads Will Roll"

― Mordy, Sunday, 30 August 2009 05:57 (sixteen years ago)
don't know anything about The Drums, but the single "Let's Go Surfing" which you can hear on the Fact Magazine website under Features is very nice. If they make a whole album that sounds like this I'll be very happy.
― Dan S, Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:11 (sixteen years ago)
Papa Roach "Lifetime"Weezer "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To"Shinedown "Second Chance"Pearl Jam "The Fixer"Chickenfoot "Oh Yeah"Say Anything "Hate Everyone"
― Why Nietzsche Weingarten (some dude), Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:24 (sixteen years ago)
No irony, I love that Say Anything track. Even if it is no "Alive With the Glory of Love"
― Mordy, Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:31 (sixteen years ago)
i don't totally love that song, but it is catchy and i am super looking forward to the new alb
― Why Nietzsche Weingarten (some dude), Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:33 (sixteen years ago)
i think it's awesome how unapologetically misanthropic he is on it, and it's catchy, AND it reminds me of Portnoy's Complaint
― Mordy, Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:34 (sixteen years ago)
i haven't heard those songs except for "second chance" which is both catchy and terrible.. i'll never listen to chickenfoot willingly.
― billstevejim, Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:35 (sixteen years ago)
Kinda weird thing about that Shinedown song; That could've EASILY been on KROQ rotation 2001-2003 (alongside Staind, Creed, How You Remind Me, etc) and would have sounded perfectly in place. I hadn't heard much modern rock since high school, but have there really been ZERO innovations over this entire decade?
― Mordy, Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:39 (sixteen years ago)
nu-grunge is less the dominant flavor than it still was a couple years ago but really it will never die
― snrubber soul (some dude), Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:43 (sixteen years ago)
In that one specific niche, that seems to be the case... that flavor being overwhelmingly American bar rock/biker rock, that which country fans may enjoy..
what are the catchiest rock singles of 2006? - This thread introduced me to so much great stuff a few years ago..
I'll hopefully remember to bump this new one every few months.
― billstevejim, Sunday, 30 August 2009 06:46 (sixteen years ago)
All-American Rejects "I Wanna"Paramore "Ignorance"Taking Back Sunday "Sink Into Me"
― snrubber soul (some dude), Sunday, 30 August 2009 07:08 (sixteen years ago)
I don't like the new TBS.
― Mordy, Sunday, 30 August 2009 07:13 (sixteen years ago)
never really liked that band in general but i enjoy that one
― snrubber soul (some dude), Sunday, 30 August 2009 07:19 (sixteen years ago)
YYY's "Zero" (single of the year imo)
― An adult loves to win awards (Stevie D), Sunday, 30 August 2009 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

Oh shit didn't know there was a new Say Anything due, very excited for that. Also excited for the new Paramore... love the new single and SPIN gave it a very glowing lead review this month.
