Fave lines from the Who's "Postcard" (written/sung by Entwistle):
"There's miles of frankfurters and people who hurt us in Germany"
"There's just ten more shows and one week to go"
"Great piles of spaghetti, bad vibes like confetti in Italy"
"There's lots of French fries, disapproving eyes in the U.S.A. We've had no shows since I don't know There's just one thing wrong, we've been here too long The money's all gone"

Nothin' ever happened 'round my hometown And I ain't the kind to just hang around But I heard someone callin' my name one day And I followed that voice down the lost highway Everybody told me you can't get far On thirty-seven dollars and a jap guitar Now I'm smokin' into Texas with the hammer down And a rockin' little combo from the Guitar Town

It was a five-band bill, A two-dollar show. I saw the van out in front From Idaho,
And the girl passed out In the backseat trash. There were no way they'd make Even a half a tank of gas.
They looked sick and stoned And strangely dressed. No one showed From the local press.
But I watched them walk Through the bottom land, And I wished that I played In a rock & roll band.

Don't it ever get lonesome? Don't it ever get sad when you go out on the road? Don't it ever get lonesome? Don't it ever get sad when you go out on a thirty day tour?
You got nothing but groupies and promoters to love you and a pile of laundry by the hotel door.
Don't it ever get lonesome? Don't it ever give a young man the blues?
Don't it ever get lonesome? Don't it ever make a young man wanna go back home?
When the P.A. system eats it, And the band plays some of the most terrible-ist shit you've ever known.

"Won't you scratch my itch sweet Annie Rich And welcome me back to town Come out on your porch or I'll step into your parlor And I'll show you how it all went down
Out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels And a good saloon in every single town
Oh, and I remember something you once told me And I'll be damned if it did not come true Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down And they all lead me straight back home to you
`Cause I headed West to grow up with the country Across those prairies with the waves of grain And I saw my devil, and I saw my deep blue sea And I thought about a calico bonnet from Cheyenne to Tennessee
We flew straight across that river bridge, last night a half past two The switchman wave his lantern goodbye and so long as we went rolling through Billboards and truckstops pass by the grievous angel And now I know just what I have to do
And the man on the radio won't leave me alone He wants to take my money for something that I've never been shown
And I saw my devil, and I saw my deep blue sea And I thought about a calico bonnet from Cheyenne to Tennessee
The news I could bring I met up with the king On his head an amphetamine crown He talked about unbuckling that old bible belt And lighted out for some desert town
Oh, but I remembered something you once told me And I'll be damned if it did not come true Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down And they all lead me straight back home to you
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down And they all lead me straight back home to you"
- Gram Parsons

Another town another place, Another girl, another face, Another truce, another race, I'm eating junk, feeling bad, Another night, I'm going mad, My woman's leaving, I feel sad, But I just love the life I lead, Another beer is what I need, Another gig my ears bleed, We Are The Road Crew
Another town I've left behind, Another drink completely blind, Another hotel I can't find, Another backstage pass for you, Another tube of super glue, Another border to get through, I'm driving like a maniac, Driving my way to hell and back, Another room a case to pack, We Are The Road Crew
Another hotel we can burn, Another screw, another turn, Another Europe map to learn, Another truckstop on the way, Another game I learn to play, Another word I learn to say, Another bloody customs post, Another fucking foreign coast, Another set of scars to boast, We Are The Road Crew

The man from the magazine said I was on my way. Somewhere I lost connections, ran out of songs to play. I came into town, a one night stand, looks like my plans fell through Oh Lord, stuck in Lodi again. If I only had a dollar for every song I've sung. And every time I've had to play while people sat there drunk. You know, I'd catch the next train back to where I live. Oh Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
