Obviously, J.F.A., being that Snoop -- for all his hemp championing -- never wrote anything as brilliant as "Beach Blanket Bong-Out".

WHO THE HELL ARE JFA AND WHO OTHER THAN YOU GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THEM

The Reverend, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

There's a change in the wind, Rev. You should be prepared for it.

I don't know, listening to JFA on youtube now and they sound pretty dumb.

Jordan, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

WHAT DO NOSTRADAMUS THE RAPTURE AND THE STAY PUFT MARSHMALLOW DUDE HAVE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER

The Reverend, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

JFA AND THEIR BEACH BLANKET BONGOUT I APPROVE OF THEIR GANG CHANTS SOUND ALRIGHT BUT THEY ARE NO SNOOP DOGG

The Reverend, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

Jodie Foster's Army

Alex in NYC, Friday, 21 March 2008 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

I like JFA and a I like Snoop, but surely this thread doesn't make a lick of sense?

ian, Friday, 21 March 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

jfa spawned sun city girls, iirc....
they look so young in that photo...

m0stlyClean, Friday, 21 March 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

Alan was a member of JFA on a few releases, I think. They toured together in 84, of which there is plentiful footage.

ian, Friday, 21 March 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

I used to thrash in my backyard halfpipe to the sweet sounds of Jodie Foster's Army (really, I did), so they've obviously got my vote - although WTF on this poll??

Most of JFA's stuff was standard So-Cal too-fast hardcore of the DK In God We Trust variety, but I sought out their albums because they had their own brand line of skateboard decks, not just a model in their name (like Gang Green or Metallica). I listened to Nowhere Blossoms into my teenage years and recall that one as being more ambitious in terms of songcraft. Does it still hold up?

God that JFA sleeve is so amazing

J0hn D., Saturday, 22 March 2008 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

The EP in the poll picture rules, but I might still give this to Snoop.

Destroy - that "If JFA Were Still Together" song

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 22 March 2008 03:17 (eighteen years ago)

yeah I have lots of sentimental SoCal love for JFA, but I also have lots of sentimental SoCal love for Snoop, whose has more good songs.

J0hn D., Saturday, 22 March 2008 03:23 (eighteen years ago)

"who has," even

J0hn D., Saturday, 22 March 2008 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

JFAs cover of "standing on the verge of getting it on" is probably something everyone inolved in this thread could agree is rad!

69, Saturday, 22 March 2008 03:56 (eighteen years ago)

now mommy and daddy can stop fighting

69, Saturday, 22 March 2008 03:57 (eighteen years ago)

Snoop, but not by a lot. JFA was profoundly forgettable, and Snoop at least had a few good ones.

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 March 2008 04:25 (eighteen years ago)

And also why does Alex dogg not know how to make a simple poll?

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 March 2008 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hard to argue that any record with a skateboard on it doesn't suck.

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 March 2008 04:27 (eighteen years ago)

THAT IS NOT SNOOP DOGG OR JFA THAT IS PHARRELL

The Reverend, Saturday, 22 March 2008 04:40 (eighteen years ago)

Most of JFA's stuff was standard So-Cal too-fast hardcore of the DK In God We Trust variety

I don't think I could say anything more damning than that.

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 March 2008 04:41 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, so-cal, too-fast, and DK. 3 strikes you lose.

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 March 2008 04:42 (eighteen years ago)

LC, my enthusiasm for JFA rooted in youthful nostalgia, rather than a continued appreciation for their actual output, so I can follow up to DK (who I do still listen to on occasion, but you are certainly entitled to dismiss). But Hard to argue that any record with a skateboard on it doesn't suck seems baded on that lame, timeworn fallacy that skateboarding = cretinism.

Pillbox, Saturday, 22 March 2008 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

"based"

Pillbox, Saturday, 22 March 2008 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

I apologize for dissing yr board and stuff.

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 March 2008 05:39 (eighteen years ago)

I don't make these polls because, again, numbers mean nothing to me in this context. I'm more interested in the commentary. Also, those looking for some semblance of logic behind these polls are wasting their time. I was bored. You're all so damn literal.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 22 March 2008 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

Hard to argue that any record with a skateboard on it doesn't suck.

man I have said some dumb stuff in my life no question but I hope to have mainly avoided this level of wrongness

J0hn D., Saturday, 22 March 2008 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

Snoop. I've got that JFA album with like 33 songs and it sucks.

Reatards Unite, Saturday, 22 March 2008 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

What I remember about JFA:

--great name (reference to Hinckley assassination attempt on Reagan, saying he did it for Jodie Foster)
--great album covers
--from Phoenix
--into skateboarding when the connection to hardcore was new
--did a combined cover of the Dead Kennedys' "Police Truck" and the Ventures "Pipeline," "Pipetruck," which to me was the coolest
--nothing else

What I remember about Snoop Dogg:

--"Drop It Like It's Hot"
--"for shizzle my nizzle" sweeps nation
--jokes on Conan, "In the year 2000" guest appearance
--"Gin and Juice"
--"three and to the four" on The Chronic
--overblown "Murder Was the Case" performance on VMAs
--kind of thinking he was probably guilty
--joined No Limit
--Christgau attacks

So: Snoop, I guess.

Pete Scholtes, Saturday, 22 March 2008 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

Though Snoop has the point against him that he's a current artist I ignore rather than a long-gone one...

Pete Scholtes, Saturday, 22 March 2008 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, and there's no such thing as too fast.
