That's a tough one. I'll narrow it down for now between 'Kiss of Life', 'Like a Tattoo', 'Cherish the Day' and 'Bullet Proof Soul'.

so, uh that's half of the album right there.

The only Sade album worthy of mention is "Diamond Life". And only a couple of tracks at that. Otherwise ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I too am a big Lovers Rock fan, I think that's the jewel in the crown, but here I'll take "No Ordinary Love" - so menacing and great.

I was stuck between "Sweetest Taboo" and "No Ordinary Love," but voted for the latter, if only for the guitar and drum sound, which makes me wonder if Sade and her boys were listening to Massive Attack.

:( There were too many Sade threads at once, the love was spread too thin.

Haha yes, I elided my own post. I was going to write about how great "Sweetest Taboo" was, but how different Love Deluxe sounds from its predecessors. Well, hey, those sentences are lost forever.

I never noticed that Bimble was also part of the Sade ILX cult :(

listening to this for the first time at a mates house. superb.

I would have voted for "No Ordinary Love" or "Cherish The Day" but it's sad to see any track here ("Mermaid" aside I guess) get 0 votes.

Love Deluxe, Sade’s fourth album, was released 20 years ago this week. To say this album is a constant influence to The Rosebuds and the records we've made over the years would be an understatement. We’ve always been fans. Ivan’s been covering Sade songs since I’ve known him--he sings them in the house, he sings them while driving, he sings them with or without a guitar in hand, he sings them when he doesn’t even realize he’s singing aloud. It’s the language he hears music in. Ivan spent some time on the North Carolina coast where he set up a small apartment--a surf camp and home studio. He’d gone to the beach to enjoy the off-season isolation, to surf, and to work on some new Rosebuds demos we have. I was delighted when he came back to Brooklyn and presented me with his own fully-tracked version of Love Deluxe. It’s only elements are the instruments Ivan drove down with, and the friends who stopped by to contribute--Rob Lackey, drums; Matt Douglas, Saxophone; Jonathan Yu, keyboards. We set about mixing it right away.

Upon first listen to Ivan’s version of Love Deluxe, I was struck by how organic it is. Where many of the electronic elements of the original had been beautiful to me, to listen to this new live-instrument sound Ivan had quick-captured is to listen directly to his evolving relationship with the music. It’s a documentation of a living connection. Please download and share this tribute recording of a record that means so much to us.

yeah, forget all the knee-jerk "indie bros pitchfork oh no etc etc" reactions, this is actually pretty good. Never been a huge Rosebuds fan, but there's so much obvious affection for the source material here, and all these covers feel really considered.

actually i don't care, i will literally never want to listen to this and i gotta be honest i'm sort of excited i live in a world where i can't imagine not being richer for it.

i mean there are so many other things i can do that will probably be more interesting / rewarding than put on the rosebuds' cover of love deluxe by sade, one of which is put on love deluxe by sade.

I mean, nobody is making any pretenses of this being better than the original, and I don't expect to get more than a few spins out of it. But by the inherently inessential standards of a cover album, this is fairly inspired. Also it's a nice reminder of how great the original is (and a prompt for me to listen to the original today), so there are worse things

well, this started out well and I think they do a good job with No Ordinary Love but then... they give teh same treatment to every single song and regularly seem to struggle to stay in tune, like on on my faves "Like a Tattoo". Too bad
