i vote "destination unknowun..." cuz he turns it into three syllables. i get made fun of a lot by ai lien for having a bit of a soft spot for this one. deserved, perhaps, but i can't help it.

i sometimes put this on roadtrip mixtapes because no matter how tired you get while driving, a sudden OMC burst will wake you the fuck up.

myndbloom, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

ps.: "Destination un-know-wen" definitely wins out.

Reminds of Barack Obama view on Washington's present condition.

To me the song's genial appeal is partly in the fact that nothing that went on was all that bizarre, and the way he says "how bizarre" reflects that. The tone of voice of the whole thing is really really relaxed, and you get the sense that if anything bizarre did happen it wouldn't faze them all that much...

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

Ultimate IRL troll catchphrase.

"There's no cornflakes left."

"How bizarre, how bizarre."

"Can you stop saying that please."

*brief silence*

"How bizarre, how bizarre."

Bodrick III, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

you could totally quote these out of context and convince me they were from the last couple dylan records:

Ringmaster steps out and says "the elephants left town"
People jump and jive, but the clowns have stuck around

They're as good as ANY dylan lyrics. And I hadn't even noticed them.

Someone, please upload the album!

This song is inextricably linked in my mind with Geggy Tah's "Whoever You Are."

love this song

a friend of mine was a music director at a radio station and got a promo CD of this song, with really amateurish-looking art, about a year before it became a hit. i remember him solemnly swearing to his skeptical friends that the song was "going to be huge." something that seemed incredibly unlikely to me. but hey, look what happened. how bizarre.

I dunno. (amateurist), Saturday, 29 November 2014 04:24 (eleven years ago)

I never really thought about this before but there is a huge resemblance between the ‘every time I look around’ refrain and the ‘every time I sit around’ / ‘every time I turn around’ bit at the end of ‘Summer Babe’. OMC were Pavement fans I’m guessing?
