Because no amount of discussion about David Bowie can ever be enough. Really, though, I'm curious what era gets the most love.

PS, "Ashes to Ashes", duh.

Z S, Friday, 28 March 2008 04:56 (eighteen years ago)

Modern Love x 1000

remy bean, Friday, 28 March 2008 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

Oh! You Pretty Things

J0rdan S., Friday, 28 March 2008 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

no moonage daydream?!?

Emily Bjurnhjam, Friday, 28 March 2008 05:38 (eighteen years ago)

I just took the tracklist from Best of Bowie 1969/74, 74/79, and 80/87. I agree "Moonage Daydream" should be on there, but then I'd have to include every track, especially "Cracked Actor", which is probably my favorite Bowie song.

Z S, Friday, 28 March 2008 05:44 (eighteen years ago)

these polls are still rigged so you can spread the love, right?

Cosmo Vitelli, Friday, 28 March 2008 05:56 (eighteen years ago)

i voted for "all the young dudes" but there's a heap of great songs there. 2nd would be "oh! you pretty things"

nonightsweats, Friday, 28 March 2008 06:11 (eighteen years ago)

1st Ashes to Ashes
2nd Aladdin Sane
3rd Golden Years

nate woolls, Friday, 28 March 2008 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

1. Heroes
2. Up The Hill Backwards

Then it gets tricky.

mike t-diva, Friday, 28 March 2008 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

Where is Dance Magic Dance?!?

I vote Heroes. Although I would probably change that in 10 minutes. Just like musical chameleon Bowie!

Colonel Poo, Friday, 28 March 2008 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Sound And Vision x 10 to the power of forever

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 28 March 2008 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ this.

Except then there's Ashes to Ashes ...

ledge, Friday, 28 March 2008 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

Ashes to Ashes = heart, Sound and Vision = mind.

ledge, Friday, 28 March 2008 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

Narrowed it down to:

Space Oddity
Starman
Ziggy Stardust
The Man Who Sold The World
Rock' N' Roll Suicide
Sound And Vision
Look Back In Anger
Boys Keep Swinging
Heroes

... but that's as far as I got... and I might change my mind any minute

Tom D., Friday, 28 March 2008 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

For me, it's Ashes To Ashes (also best video ever, BTW) vs. -- I must admit -- Let's Dance or Blue Jean. Breaking Glass, if it's that song from Low, is also right up there.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 28 March 2008 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

This is a toughie, but I have to say Heroes is one of those songs that makes me stop what I'm doing no matter what it is and just listen, every time, I don't know why. So Heroes it is.

sparkletuna, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

this morning "Look Back in Anger," but it could be almost any one of these, even "Time Will Crawl."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

Must be "Life On Mars" although several of his best moments aren't represented in any compilation.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

"Five Years" is my personal favorite.

myndbloom, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

It's heartbreaking that "Stay" from Station to Station isn't here.

the next grozart, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

...not to mention the title track, his best song.

Golden Years.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

"Rebel Rebel"

Euler, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

"Rebel Rebel"

cee-oh-tee-tee, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

I picked "Oh! You Pretty Things" but I'm afraid "Boys Keep Swinging" won't get enough love. And of course, "After All"---my favorite Bowie song---is not on the poll. :(

Turangalila, Saturday, 29 March 2008 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

"Life On Mars?"

zeus, Saturday, 29 March 2008 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Heroes" may be my favorite song ever so that one yeah

abanana, Saturday, 29 March 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

Faaaaaaame.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 29 March 2008 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Boys Keep Swinging gets plenty of love from me - such a great sense of humour

moley, Saturday, 29 March 2008 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

velvet goldmine

billstevejim, Saturday, 29 March 2008 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

looking down the list, i'm not really qualified to vote, but i'll go ahead and pick "heroes," one of my favorite songs ever.

Tape Store, Sunday, 30 March 2008 03:58 (eighteen years ago)

Why do you think you're not qualified to vote? Just vote based off of what you've heard (And "Heroes" is certainly not a bad choice). Is it because you haven't heard his later stuff (or earlier)?

Z S, Sunday, 30 March 2008 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

Not qualified to vote cos he voted for "'Heroes'".

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 30 March 2008 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

1. Oh! you pretty things (no one else could pull off a song like this and not make it crap imho)
2. John, I'm only dancing
3. Rebel Rebel

another honorable abscence mention: Dance Magic Dance

fantasimundo, Sunday, 30 March 2008 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

PS, "Ashes to Ashes", duh.
^^^^
exactly

daria-g, Sunday, 30 March 2008 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

you look at a list like this and think: "bowie: yeh, he was quite good, wasn't he?"

:)

amid a wealth of diamonds, "heroes" manages to shine even more brightly. what sparkletuna says is true for me, too: it's one of those stop-me-dead-in-my-tracks tracks.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 30 March 2008 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

Is it because you haven't heard his later stuff (or earlier)?

I know, like, 25-30 of those songs (I've never really explored Bowie apart from the (what i presume are) most popular singles. I'm kinda excited to listen to more, though!)

Tape Store, Sunday, 30 March 2008 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 3 April 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

A ton of incredible songs didn't get any votes. That's how good Bowie is.

chap, Thursday, 3 April 2008 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

Modern Love 0

uh, i voted for this?

remy bean, Thursday, 3 April 2008 23:22 (eighteen years ago)

not a single vote for "TCV 15" wtf.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 3 April 2008 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, a lot of the songs with 0 votes would be career highlights for nearly anyone else.

Z S, Thursday, 3 April 2008 23:51 (eighteen years ago)

"Starman" and "Space Oddity" received zero too. Says more about Bowie than about those songs, really.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 4 April 2008 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

This thread has made me put Bowie on repeat for hours this week! I am pretty sure I was the sole John, I'm Only Dancing vote, but looking now I may very well voted for 5-6 of these songs depending on which mood I was in. Today it'd be Ashes to Ashes, definitely. It really IS spectacular how many 0 vote songs would also be career highlights for anyone else..
