that dave holland album is simply incredible, one of the best avant-jazz albums i've ever heard. i've mentioned this before but it happens to also have been the first jazz album i ever picked up. everyone's playing is so fresh, energetic, inspired. it's raucous and off the wall at some points but plaintive and quiet in others. nothing from dave holland, though, has impressed me as much as his work on this album. it's really a complete classic, i think.

and i love the om album, dearly. 'pilgrimage' was my favorite record of last year. but i'm not sure if i'd pick it over dave holland's.

i live anthony braxton's five pieces from 1975, which has altschul and holland on it. not rivers, unfortunately...

Such a great album. And my first introduction to Braxton. Weirdly, I was thinking of digging it out again earlier today.
