Even ignoring the absence of face-fuzz for a moment: Amber isn't wearing brown shoes; Alice isn't wearing a scarf or holding a large cardboard cup; and if I didn't know any better I'd swear she'd got socks on too!

Stewart Osborne, Friday, 4 April 2008 10:50 (seventeen years ago)

I could easily believe that Alice has been drawing nasty cartoons of Amber and holding them up to the audience behind Alice's back 'though.

Stewart Osborne, Friday, 4 April 2008 10:52 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry, behind Amber's back, obv.

Stewart Osborne, Friday, 4 April 2008 10:53 (seventeen years ago)

btw Mark, are you aware that Pressgang are reforming for a one-off special at the After Dark on 26th April to celebrate Damian's 50th?

Guest appearances are expected to include Johnny Kirby (ex Bullseye, Pressgang, Diatribe, The Cabal and heaven knows who else), Sprogg (ex K9's, Zerox, Geisha Girls, ICU, Pressgang and heaven knows who else) and with support from Darrell Mitchell (who, before forming Home & Abroad, was briefly in a band called 3 Second Touch with me!).

It's looking as if I may well be coming back up for the occasion (although if I am, I anticipate getting very, very drunk, this being the best way I can think of to help to recreate the atmosphere of a 1980's Pressgang gig as authentically as possible).

Stewart Osborne, Friday, 4 April 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

Stewart, wanna copy of Chou Pahrot's album? Can send you a link.

Tom D., Friday, 4 April 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

Yes please Tom!

Stewart Osborne, Friday, 4 April 2008 11:10 (seventeen years ago)

OK, let me know if that worked, when you can.

Tom D., Friday, 4 April 2008 11:16 (seventeen years ago)

haha - that list of Reading bands is evocative. I can't remember what Press Gang sounded like though I must have seen them. Diatribe were fantastic - Johnny was the drummer, wasn't he, or was that his brother?

Dr.C, Friday, 4 April 2008 12:05 (seventeen years ago)

If you can't remember Pressgang, you weren't there!

Basically

"Ho Ho, said the captain!"

etc...

I thought brown shoes didn't make it?

Mark G, Friday, 4 April 2008 12:33 (seventeen years ago)

Amber at school: "Sit down and be quiet... everyone in this room is wearing a uniform, don't kid yourself..."

Darn guys! I'm away for this!

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:26 (seventeen years ago)

"Johnny was the drummer [of Pressgang] wasn't he, or was that his brother?"

Johnny was indeed the drummer, as well as attempting to be my French teacher for a while(!) and his brother Tim was bassist and vocalist.

Stewart Osborne, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 09:43 (seventeen years ago)

"If you can't remember Pressgang, you weren't there!"

I was there quite frequently but most of the memories are decidedly hazy!

"Basically

"Ho Ho, said the captain!"

etc..."

Or to put it another way: imagine an English version of The Pogues....

Tom - can't remember if I thanked you for that Chou Pahrot, but if I haven't done so already: many thanks!

Stewart Osborne, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 09:51 (seventeen years ago)

You know, for some time I've considered getting them to recreate this picture...

OK, I can't find it. Sid on the left plays bass, John leans forward and smiles for the camera, b&w live photo. Can't find it on GoogImg.

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

Are you planning to do a series of 'em Mark? You could post a picture of Amber & Alice recreating a different famous album sleeve or promo shot on here every week, and see how long it takes us to work it out!

Stewart Osborne, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

Heh, you know, i'm not actually doing this, that pic uptop is pure coincidence.

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 15:01 (seventeen years ago)

Ha! This has popped up again! Thanks for the info about Diatribe, Stew. I thought Johnny was the drummer - he was absolutely amazing. I'd love to find a copy of that EP again "Ha! Fucking Ha!" it was called, wasn't it? That spoken-word + drums track 'The Wrong Thing' was jawdroppingly funny and frightening the first time I heard it live. Actually... every time I heard it live.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

Doc, I've actually got a CDR full of all of Diatribe's stuff which I got from Johnny a few months back - e-mail my your snail mail address and I can copy if for you if you like?

You should also investigate The Cabal, which was a later sort-of reincarnation of Diatribe (again based around Tim & Johnny) who actually recorded an album.

Fwiw Johnny's now part of some Taiko (traditional Japanese drumming) troupe based somewhere down in Exeter....

I guess in this modern day and age, this counts as her first single (any references to "Monster Mash" have been withdrawn from the internet in general, let's just say..)
