So it's 10PM and you got a craving for some "Buffalo Stance", then you queue up a couple more bangers in Winamp, then a couple more, then maybe you wonder if the first Police album is as good as its singles... Before you know it, it's pushing 3AM and you've got to be up in four hours.

Dud. I did this last night and have been paying for it at work all afternoon.

Classic. Last night I was gonna lose sleep studying for an exam, but it was much more fun to watch all the rare Afghan Whigs footage on YouTube than to study constantly. And besides, it kept me alert until about 4 AM, and I think I did well on the exam, so there.

There is certain music that sounds best in the stillness of 3AM (Eno, for instance) and if you've made it that far, daybreak can inspire a playlist until the hooch finally beats you down.

The hooch always wins.

i love staying up listening to music until the night loses its color & i wind up in this weird headspace that can't possibly be matched in the daytime. on the other hand, staying up all night adding stuff to my new mp3 player just leaves me tired & restless.

The way it's going I might stay up listening to the Juan McLean's "Happy House" all night on repeat.

Classic and dud. This is much harder to do when you live with a significant other. They keep you from pulling this on the nights when its best advised not to.

Classic when you have absolutely nothing to do the next day. Dud dud dud if you have to get up for work. This thread has actually reminded me that I must sleep now.

Classic and dud - did this last night listening to John Cale's "Slow Dazzle" and feel like poo today (damn you ILM!).

Davey D, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)

Classic

But only when smacked up to my tits.

Otherwise, like me- it's dull

Fer Ark, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

this happens to me a lot. i intend to go to bed at 1:30 or 2 and then i get on a kick of one kind or another -- burrowing into mp3 blogs or watching every mutt lange video i can find or whatever -- and suddenly it's 3:30.

classic - YouTube is a time sink.

that's not my post, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 02:40 (seventeen years ago)

Classic. it's almost 5 AM and i've been comparing my recordings of THE RING scene by scene for the past 6 hours! (i also have not gone to bed before 3:00 AM for the past 5 years of my life, though..)

poortheatre, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 02:44 (seventeen years ago)

Beats 'staying up too late downloading porn' or 'staying up all night eating stale Rice Krispies and watching King Of Queens' by a country mile

Classic when you're doing it, dud in the morning.

Roz, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 06:21 (seventeen years ago)

I think pretty much everyone has this spot on. I don't do this much at all anymore. What I do like doing now is getting up early on Sundays and listening to music in that quiet time. That's nice.

People here seem to be doing this mostly on their computer.

I used to do the same thing with tapes, CDs and the radio as a teenager.
Suppose the comp makes it easier now.

I never listen to music alone if I'm not in work the next day, I'm always out with mates or something. I'll have to set aside a fri or sat night to do this though.
