I vote 1983. Way more manic/ballsy. And more metal, despite the '92 version's intentions.

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 12 April 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Friday, 18 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

I suspect I'm going to be the only vote for 1992.

Jeff Treppel, Friday, 18 April 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

I suspect I'm going to be the only vote for 1992.

What a lonely poll. I voted 92 cuz Ofra Haza is amazing

baaderonixx, Saturday, 19 April 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I've heard the '92 version but I'm scared to hear it. That is, until I learned the mighty Ofra Haza is on it. Okay I'll try it.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

what kind of goth are you then?

baaderonixx, Saturday, 19 April 2008 10:08 (seventeen years ago)

Hahahahah the inevitable reply! :)

I'm the kind of goth that really doesn't appreciate the generic "canned" nature of this 1992 version with the flirting-with-metal guitar sound. Ugh.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 10:10 (seventeen years ago)

And poor Ofra Haza! What is she doing on a Sisters of Mercy record in the first place??

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 10:11 (seventeen years ago)

But then to be honest, even the '83 version doesn't do a whole lot for me anymore. Out of all those wonderful songs on Some Girls Wander By Mistake, it's the one song that seems to have lost something over the years for me. Just feels played out.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 10:13 (seventeen years ago)

yes OTM. I find it a bit embarrassing these days

baaderonixx, Saturday, 19 April 2008 10:18 (seventeen years ago)

Exactly.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 10:54 (seventeen years ago)

OK where is andi for this poll

robertwolf8080, Saturday, 19 April 2008 11:58 (seventeen years ago)

this was the one, back then, then seemed like the greatest one at first and then had to take a back seat to Body Electric, Anaconda, several of the b-sides, and especially the mighty Floorshow

of the '92 version we shall not speak

J0hn D., Saturday, 19 April 2008 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

Ha! Mums the word! *fingers to lips now*

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

I love Ofra Haza, but really -- did she really need to warble all over this track? Methinks not. 83 all the way.

Alex is back!

PUT ON THE FUCKING KILLING JOKE NOW!

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

I probably should have done a Reptile House EP poll instead

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 19 April 2008 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

"The Damage Done" single poll.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 19 April 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Hahahah! 12 to 3! I love it.

Bimble, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)

I'd have voted for the oldie if I'd noticed the poll.

Despite their later occasional high points I think it's fair to say the Sisters were on a downward trajectory long before they ever got an album out. Temple of Love was maybe the beginning of the slide (said in hindsight, at the time it was stunning).

The line "my guardian angel walks away" still slays me.
