I search for this shit, I really do - but cannot find anything.
I am sick of playing Angry Samoans, Cows, Flipper---- bad examples maybe, but i'm tired and old
I'm not after Death Metal either - as much as I love it.
Pissed Jeans were looking good but have become a bit of a damp squib. EEk . Sorry
Maybe I need a good therapist? Maybe I should stick to Mark E Smith
Are we relying on the Gallows? FFS zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You sound like the sort who rates Los Campesinos? Any great?

The Trashies have some excellent odes to child neglect and itchy social diseases that give me hope for the children of tomorrow.

Marilyn Manson used to scare parents. He was probably the last rocker to achieve this correctly.
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)
The only people who can possibly be scared by "rock" music these days are senior citizens. Everyone else has grown up with music that was supposed to scare grownups, and they are much harder to scare. So why not just give up that project forever?
― Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 08:38 (seventeen years ago)
I was being slightly tongue in cheek their Geir. I mean, pretending to be satan is just plain ridiculous.
I suppose I'm referencing bands that are not chasing fame, not part of 'a scene' . Xhuxk above has kind of nailed it with that link above. Don't worry, it's stuff you will have no interest in. Maybe find it a bit 'scary'
― Fer Ark, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 09:18 (seventeen years ago)
Second these Trashies. Defunkt now, but I think they still make their entire discography (three stolen Spits songs parading as sixty) available for free download. Miss em good.
SEX VID! And gah yeah but almost about everything in that pigfuck thread. Truths told, I can't make up my mind about the more straightforward AmRep clones (ala Pissed Jeans, Clockcleaner). I go back an forth. Sometimes I think it's too much angry muscle, not enough retard slop. HOMOSTUPIDS!
― contenderizer, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)
i'd say the seeds for the phenomenom in the thread title were plant somewhere circa 1995 - the end of grunge, "touch & go" arent what they used to be,low fi and twee bands are the big thing in indie, "evil bands" going deeper into the margins, lots of them are boring.

evil is paris hilton singles and rabid hannah montana.
corporate zombies with lip gloss.
http://www.myspace.com/aluktodolo check out "disease"... that's some proper scary crap right there. (pretty interesting music also.) reminds me of the tumult/no quarter scene... skingraft with less humor.
i can't imagine kids taking that seriously. you'd need some nasty rumors... like that tale of pj harvey taking a dump in the middle of the audience at a nick cave show.
paris needs to follow the locust's lead and sell coke mirrors make up kits at her concerts...

Human Eye Sioux City Pete & the Beggars Rusted Shut Today is the Day
The "too much angry muscle, not enough retard slop" comment is too true, too often (though I like both Pissed Jeans and Clockcleaner quite a lot) for modern angry stuff.
Jay Reatard's increasing fame has got to be a good sign.
― BigLurks, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)
Though I guess SC Pete, Steve Austin, and the Rusted Shut dudes probably don't qualify as kids anymore...
― BigLurks, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 06:40 (seventeen years ago)
i'd say the seeds for the phenomenom in the thread title were plant somewhere circa 1995
I'd say the seeds for the thread title are in the author's head. I remember people saying the same thing in '86 ("big black's not scary, listen to spk"), in '89 (lydia lunch review of pussy galore in fe was like "o these kids"), in '95 ("touch n go's alright, but not like it was back in the 80s"), etc. there's usually good evil music around, but it's in some local scene or so underground you hear about it years later.
in providence alone there's: white mice tinsel teeth (more sleazy than scary but definitely rocking the pigfuck vibe) vvltvre teenage waistband snake apartment suffering bastard landed
not sure if they're still around but veronica lipgloss & the evil eyes (terrible name) did a great album a few years back.
also, seriously terrorizing / antagonizing the audience usually falls into the the domain of the pure noise crowd nowadays.

could anything be more fucking boring and banal and embarassing and played the fuck out than the concept of musicians being evil?
