"Long, Long, Long", no question. That's maybe my fave Beatle song, period.

Here Comes the Sun

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

why is Because on here

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

that's a mistake... i think it was on the originall list i cut & pasted because they all sing on it, but i meant the list to be just straight ahead george leads

fritz, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

"Here Comes the Sun" for me. George's voice always had this gentle, humble, human quality to it that lends the song's optimism a sincerity and strength.

If you were to include his solo stuff, I would say the same quality shines through on "If Not For You" (his Dylan cover) and "Isn't It a Pity" (though in that song proving the gentle, humble voice is equally powerful in a mounrful context as well). Those two songs wouldn't be nearly as powerful (IMO) without his vocal performance.

Joe, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

"Taxman", because his voice is almost at a Lennon level of biting delivery, matching the song's subject matter. "Savoy Truffle" comes in a close second.

snoball, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

"Something".

Geir Hongro, Monday, 14 April 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

A terrible singer in most respects, except when he wrote a compelling vocal melody ("Here Comes The Sun," "Long Long Long") or sneered/grumbled to entertaining effect ("I'm Happy Just To Dance With You").

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 14 April 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

Long Long Long

kornrulez6969, Monday, 14 April 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

"Something" is just plain beautiful.

myndbloom, Monday, 14 April 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'

Michael White, Monday, 14 April 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

A terrible singer in most respects,

Really? I really love his voice, for the most part...

Joe, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

The Word wasn't his lead vocal, was it?

DavidM, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

Nope, that was Lennon/McCartney/Harrison on the choruses, Lennon on the verses.

My vote's going to "Savoy Truffle" -- it's simultaneously the most at-ease of his lead vocals and the most driving/sneering.

Sara Sara Sara, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, the word is a 3-part harmony, shouldn't be on there

fritz, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

this might be useful for this poll -- i've been listening to it for the last week (i added "not guilty") and it's quite a nice collection. though some of that early stuff sure is ... early.

tylerw, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

haha, THIS might be useful http://nevergetoutoftheboat.blogspot.com/2007/09/george-harrison-beatles.html

tylerw, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

My focus with "I Me Mine" has always been with the passionate guitar playing, but it occurs to me as I consider here that his vocals on the tune can be described in the same way.

So yeah, I'll go with "I Me Mine"

SecondBassman, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

I'm a big admirer of his deadpan performance on 'Think For Yourself'. The way he stretches out 'rec-ti-fy' is particularly good.

chap, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

for a sec, I thought this thread was "George Best's Lead Vocal as a Beatle"!

henry s, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

So did I actually.

You'll know which one I voted for when the results come through.

Rob M v2, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

I recently found my 9th grade yearbook, in which I had listed George Harrison as my favorite singer...I did?

henry s, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)

Only A Northern Song, dawg.

ian, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

While my guitar gently weeps.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

Only A Northern Song, dawg.

Worst song ever.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

gonna go with 'if i needed someone'.

but ordinarily, i'd probably opt for one of the abbey road numbers

Charlie Howard, Friday, 25 April 2008 04:52 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, those two are pretty hard to beat. But I'm gonna go with the overlooked "I Me Mine", largely because I don't expect it to get any votes, otherwise.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 25 April 2008 06:21 (seventeen years ago)

has to be 'here comes the sun'. when you can't decide whether you prefer someone's version of a song or nina simone's that makes them a bit good.

or something, Friday, 25 April 2008 06:50 (seventeen years ago)

Again I vote for the Carl Perkin's song.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Friday, 25 April 2008 12:56 (seventeen years ago)

Arggh. Moranic '

James Redd and the Blecchs, Friday, 25 April 2008 12:57 (seventeen years ago)

He was definitely better at singing the softer, wispy things than the rockers.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 25 April 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.
