of things for me to listen to.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:36 (seventeen years ago)

add it to your grocery list also

deej, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:36 (seventeen years ago)

I think this is a good idea given the results of the last poll. But if it's a given that, if included, ILM will either elect Illmatic or Ready to Die only, I want that on record too.

Has that poll already been done? A search finds nothing...

ablaeser, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:38 (seventeen years ago)

HOOS OTM about leaving those off.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:14 (seventeen years ago)

Zzzzzz...almost everyone here either went on to better things or their better things were already behind them. Digable Planets got my vote despite Blowout Comb's inferiority to the eternal debut.

Now a moment of silence for the sui generis Chip Fu (one of the five greatest rappers of all-time, ya know it!) and, um, the underrated Muse Sick-N-Hour Mess Age.

With Odd Squad right behind

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 07:04 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah on the list it's between Organized Konfusion and Scarface for me. But in reality I play "Fadanuf Fa Erybody" more than any of these records. Fuckin' with dem hoes with dem babies ah-woo-woo-woo-woooooo

this is crazy poll! after much thought I went with Jeru

Preview of the Matrix 12, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 08:50 (seventeen years ago)

Gravediggaz is probably my favourite rap LP ever, but I've been starting to like Stress: The Extinction Agenda more and more, so I might vote that one.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 09:32 (seventeen years ago)

Gillette – On The Attack

xhuxk, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 12:30 (seventeen years ago)

I actually kind of agree with HOOS on this (I know, it's crazy, a landmark year and the Stomp The Yard soundtrack should clearly be treated the same way!). Illmatic/Ready To Die would be an interesting one-on-one poll but they'd loom over this one so much it'd be boring. I voted for Common.

Beatnuts

Euler, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 13:42 (seventeen years ago)

Quite a year! Hope you enjoyed the Trendz of Culture record (also 94), too, Hoos.

I'm stuck between OK and Gangstarr right now.

Furthermore, props for correctly noting it was Common Sense who made resurrection.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 13:54 (seventeen years ago)

Pretty weak list

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

ha. is the rest of the album as good as the singles?

deej, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

Some of it is even better! (Better than "Short, Short Man," anyway; "Mr. Personality" is probably her best song.) (And her second album is real good too, by the way.)

xhuxk, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

digable planets are a steaming pile of poo

jhøshea, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

anyway, Blowout Comb

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

damn hard...i'm stuck between warren g and jeru right now.

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

"Pretty weak list"

Bonkers. Between Stress and 6 Feet Deep for me.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

Resurrection all the way! One of my favorite rap records (Chicago bias, but whatevs). Man I wish the last decade of Common didn't mostly suck.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Gravediggaz is probably my favourite rap LP ever, but I've been starting to like Stress: The Extinction Agenda more and more, so I might vote that one.

haha i almost took gravediggaz off then i went 'nah tuomas will vote for it'

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:04 (seventeen years ago)

6 Feet Deep definitely has better beats than Stress, but no one can beat Pharaohe Monch and Prince Po at their best in pure rapping skills. Songs like "Bring It On" still remain the most amazing feats of vocal and lyrical dexterity I've ever heard on any rap record.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 08:12 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

PappaWheelie V, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)

deej, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

@ alex im not bitching, i just think these results are funny

deej, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

i mean here's a poll i wouldnt have said was ridiculous - one in which my favorite albums on it didn't get one vote

deej, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:27 (seventeen years ago)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 23:27 (seventeen years ago)

The Reverend, Thursday, 17 April 2008 03:30 (seventeen years ago)

how did i miss this poll?!?!?!?! ;_;

i would've voted for either gang starr or gravediggaz. they both sound better a decade + after they came out.

Isn't that Roots album from 95?

-- The Reverend, Thursday, 17 April 2008 03:30 (1 hour ago)

possibly. i c/p'd & pruned the list from my "POO: Year for Hip-Hop" thread

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 17 April 2008 04:53 (seventeen years ago)

Don't blame me for these results, I voted for Organized. Can't see anything wrong with the winner though, since 6FD is easily among the top 10 rap albums ever.
