I have always been a bit puzzled about what Federici did and what Roy Bittan did, but Federici did those "ambient" organ parts like in "I'm On Fire" while Bittan did more "beefed-up" piano or synth performances like in "Hungry Heart", "Dancing In The Dark" and "Born In The USA", right?

Federici played organ, accordion, and some synth; Bittan played pretty much all the piano on E Street records (unless Bruce played something) and also lots of synth. Bittan is obv. a more skilled musician, but Federici was a distinctive thread through all the E Street records.
