Nice, real nice.

when rakim's verse ends, i weep. it should last for at least another twelve to fifteen minutes. pretty swank beat from the good doctor, not sure about ms hurts

I thought it was produced by DJ Quik. The attempt to bring a melody over that beat doesn't quite click for me but yeah... that sample's nice, if not a bit reminiscent of "Oochie Wally".

Honda, Monday, 6 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*shrug* i figured the debut single by a dre artist would be one of his beats, just as a branding kind of thing

bc, Monday, 6 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At first I thought it was a contrived attempt to jack the "eastern" sound that's been so successful... But then I groved...

Keiko, Monday, 6 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The first time I heard this in the car I turned to my friend and said, "The only thing that could make this song more weird would be a guest verse by Rakim", and there it was!

(OK, not really, but I thought it).

Kris, Monday, 6 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

word is produced by Quik, mixed by Dre. is the title "Addictive" or "So Addictive"?

i've been hearing it non-stop for like a month now and completely adoring it and coincidentally only finally broke down and dug around to find out who/what it is earlier today.

Rakim is definitely the best part. Truth's voice is.. well.. I kept thinking "if Nikka Costa was black" during the vid, but maybe that was more due to the outfit.

two years pass...
REVIVE: This is still one of the best songs of the decade.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with you about this and 'Slip Inside This House'.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

YES.

Is the album any good apart from this? I think I saw it somewhere cheap a few days ago, but I was in a rush.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw the video for another song once (with a chorus that went "you can't hide from the TRUTH!"), which just didn't hold a candle to Addictive by any stretch...

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

too bad it got forgotten when it came to the 00s poll

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Meh meh.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

you shock me

The album's easy to find in cutout bins. I got a copy for 99c a few months ago and haven't bothered listening to the other tracks yet.

P.S. When this song first came out, someone at the Velvet Rope message board noted that she looked like Jay-Z in drag. That image has forever tainted my ability to appreciate the rest of her work.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a great song.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

Another revive. This is still a great song, but you can't get it due to legal stuff re the sample.

"Sampled" is not really the right word.

humansuit, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

i think that's a cover of the original song.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)

deej, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

O, that's interesting, yeah that would be right since the sample sounds old. Any luck finding the original then?

"My back is aching/From all this love making/Oh yes I'm taking/Ain't no use in faking"

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

i was living in nepal when this song was big, the bollywood/hip hop crowd were SO into it. i don't think they had any idea who truth hurts was though, they were too busy singing along with lata mangeshkar...
