Did most of the Wurzels become actors in BBC historical dramas/mysteries? They look mighty familiar.

Alex in SF, Friday, 18 April 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

The lead singer of The Wurzels looks a lot like Phoenix Nights' star Dave Spikey, which may be confusing you:

Awful awful stuff by the way, but I think prefer the Wurzels from the three songs here.

Wheel on the Barron Knights - far superior to these two fake boy bands

Fer Ark, Friday, 18 April 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

As a long-time American anglophile, I appreciate the education this this thread has given me. I've heard of Chas n' Dave before but Wurzels is a name more vague to me. I too chose Chas n' Dave as I'm afraid I find Wurzels utterly repellant, though Gertcha stretches the bounds of my patience and really wasn't there better stuff around in '79?

I'm sad that there haven't been more responses to this thread. Hopefully the vote count totals will show people were at least willing to vote.

Went to a wedding in Somerset this summer and that combine harvester song was played. What the fuck is up with that!

Bimble, Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:22 (seventeen years ago)

Or does this relate to dancehall in some way? Or was that the Kinks and something completely different (haha Monty Python..)

Bimble, Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:25 (seventeen years ago)

The Wurzels guy sounds a bit like the dude from Killdozer.

BigLurks, Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:32 (seventeen years ago)

"In the seventies Chas & Dave were prolific session musicians before their own thing took off, playing on many albums for a wide range of artists. One such album was Labi Siffre's 'Remember My Song' from 1975. One of the tracks on this album - 'I Got The' - was sampled by Eminem on his breakthrough hit 'My Name Is' and is the main musical refrain of the track. Chas is playing guitar and Dave is playing bass."

"Chas & Dave as you've never seen them before...entertaining people!"

These are cockney from London, not rednecks =)

I figured they were northeners or some other group that Brits tend to be embarrassed about. Americans have rednecks and downeasters (rural New Englanders). : )

Thomas, Friday, 25 April 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

One of them was in Head, Hands and Feet, who are supposed to be pretty rad!
