this was posted on another board...
(garage d'or records is named after the legendary defunct mpls record store owned by terry katzman, who co-founded reflex records and did live sound for the huskers back in the day)
Terry Katzman will be releasing TWO CD's of rare Husker material in 2008. On Garage D'or Records. I think one is studio and one live. I talked to him about a week ago and he was really excited about it so there is that to look forward to.
pretty exciting!
someone else who has heard it said it was NOT as hardcore style as land speed record...more pre-hardcore sound, poppier stuff, NYC punk influence

Where's the fucking book? The remastered(or maybe just mastered)re- released albums?
Maybe being dense, but does this have the backing of the warring Du?
― Fer Ark, Friday, 18 April 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)
uhhh wow ...drool drool ... really looking forward to this
― BlackIronPrison, Friday, 18 April 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)
fer ark
i'm sure it does....like i said, katzman goes way back w/huskers and is still in mpls, he's probably one of the few that's still cool with mould, hart, and norton....like his label is super duper small usually releases stuff only to indie stores in mpls and stuff, so it's gotta be the friendship thing that's getting this done....terry is a great dude, his store was the bomb (RIP)
― M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 18 April 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)
Look forward to this baby.
Thanks for the Mpls inside info. Interesting stuff
― Fer Ark, Friday, 18 April 2008 22:59 (seventeen years ago)
Are the Du still warring? I thought Bob & Grant were not made up but kinda neutral towards each other these days. I always thought it was Greg Ginn preventing the albums from being reissued/remastered, maybe I'm wrong.
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 April 2008 23:02 (seventeen years ago)
i don't think it's "war" but my sense is that they are not exactly buddies. norton is a chef and has a restaurant and seems to be sort of past the whole music thing....he has been playing in a band with dave king from happy apple/bad plus locally at least, they are pretty good improv math rock/jazz stuff...
http://www.myspace.com/thegangfontfeatinterloper
they are called the gang font ^^
grant has been working on some album forever...recorded partially here at the old blackberry way (where let it be was recorded) and also in toronto i guess with some guy from godspeed you black emporer
― M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 18 April 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)
although bob and grant did perform together at the tribute show to karl mueller from soul asylum
Yeah they played "Hardly Getting Over It" and "Never Talking to You Again". Funny guys.

* At the end of the album, Bob Mould says, "we'll be back for another set." Mould told Rolling Stone in 1986 that he still has the tape "somewhere." He goes on to say, "That's the other side of the band nobody ever saw back then...really, really heavy. There was a different kind of interplay between guitar, bass and drums. The vocals were a lot more sparse."

not the release I was talking about but SURPRISE NEWS FROM GRANT
http://grumpys-bar.com/downtown/images/huskerfull.jpg
Monday 7/28/08 10pm: As a memorial to his lost friend "JC" Grant Hart & co. have released a way limited HUSKER DU CD E.P. on Reflex records containing 3 live songs circa 82-83. So we're throwing a shindig i.e. record release party hosted by Grant. Come on down, as Rick Fuller has thrown together some choice tibits of archival Husker Du footage that we'll be screening as well. Obviously there'll be some of the E.P.'s there for sale, as well as a small number of the limited run fliers for the event designed and numbered by Mr. Hart himself. 10pm at Grumpy's City Club.
"JC" = John Clegg, saxophonist, who died of cancer earlier this year. The three songs on the ep feature John sitting in with the band: two versions of Grant's song "Drug Party" (which the Blue Hippos covered, but hasn't seen an official Hukser release until now) and "What's Going On." I believe there were 500 copies made.

Oh! Missed this, but was just wondering about the double CD thing. No updates, I guess.

Due to unforeseen obstacles, the release of our Hüsker Dü Compilation has been indefinitely postponed. Our apologies for the inconvenience. - Terry Katzman and everyone at Garage D’or Records
(i will give anyone who can guess what "unforeseen obstacles" are a shiny nickel)
― M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 19 September 2008 18:03 (seventeen years ago)
their CD-R burner broke

:-(
― StanM, Friday, 19 September 2008 18:17 (seventeen years ago)
Are they the sort of obstacles that could more accurately be described as 'foreseen'? I have Paypal btw
― The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Friday, 19 September 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)
one obstacle rhymes with "knob" and one rhymes with "can't" and these obstacles don't like each other very much and tend to bicker over things ; )
the label's actually pretty legit they've done a lot of cool reissues..of some old mpls punk comps, suicide commandos, a few newer bands, etc
― M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 19 September 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)
speaking of...all these garage d'or reissues are way worth checking out...kitten and barefoot have some old huskers stuff actually:
