pretty cool mix to be honest

that said,
they way short-shrift no limit, it tends towards parochial NY releases, and this section, especially coming after "The Watcher," is like ugh:

Phat Kat "Don't Nobody Care About Us"
Slum Village "Get This Money"
Lootpack "Whenimondamic"
MF Doom "Doomsday"
Handsome Boy Modeling School "Holy Calamity (Bear Witness II)" feat. DJ Shadow & DJ Quest

and i think 'doomsday' is hot, its just ... yeurgh. im sure there are songs from '99 i'd rather see on there than 'holy calamity (bear witness ii)' that didnt make it

deej, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

Jay-Z "Big Pimpin'" feat. UGK

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 April 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)

pretty great mix - was ready to give it to either Goodie or Slick Rick but then I saw Got Yr Money. ODB wins

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:45 (seventeen years ago)

i'm voting for '85' but obviously an incredible year for rap

'2001' is gonna suffer serious vote splitting, so will tracks with jay (i would pick 'snoopy track' or the 'ha' remix), 'watch out now' is easily top 5 for me, 'doin it' is one of my favorite common songs and one of the best songs on the list, 'street talking' is incredible, c-murder track is an anthem, lol @ choclair, cool that they included Screwball, and i think the only one i havent heard is that thirstin howl song although i might be wrong

deej, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

ass so fat that you could see it from the front

rev, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

Q-Tip "Breathe And Stop"

^^^maybe gonna be underrated

its crazy, i dont know how anyone can look at this list and not see so much going on in rap music this year

but wait ... where is 'streetz is a mutha'???

deej, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

i never thought "ha" rmx was all that great. jay makes the track less scary and therefore less good

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 April 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

i threw a dart at the screen and it landed on B.G.

Jordan, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Ja Rule "Holla Holla"

thought about voting for this for a sec tho i don't remember if the verses are even half good

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 April 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Lyrics Born "I Changed My Mind" (Stereo MCs Rattlesnake Remix)

hmm dont know this

believe it or not jay used to be less of a luvable cartoon character

deej, Monday, 21 April 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, I did not remember all this shit was from '99. This is real tough, but I'll give a boring vote to "Da Rockwilder". It wasn't as revelatory or exciting at the time as some of the others, but I've never, even briefly, gotten sick of it.

C0L1N B..., Monday, 21 April 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

Three-way toss-up between Beatnuts, DMX, and "Da Rockwilder". Went with Les and Ju.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 21 April 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

I don't know enough of these songs to vote and I'd vote for the wrong one anyway

J0hn D., Tuesday, 22 April 2008 02:14 (seventeen years ago)

personal top 10:
Method Man & Redman "Da Rockwilder"
C-Murder "Down For My Niggas" feat. Snoop Dogg
The Roots "Act Too... The Love Of My Life" feat. Common
Juvenile "Ha" (Remix feat. Jay-Z) << I hate to get all Whiney-on-worst-thread release date nitpicky, but this was definitely out and got most of its spins in '98
Wu-Tang Clan "Protect Ya Neck (The Jumpoff)"
Tear Da Club Up Thugs "Hypnotize Cash Money"
Jay-Z "Snoopy Track" feat. Juvenile
Snoop Dogg "Bitch Please" feat. Xzibit
DMX "What These Bitches Want" feat. Sisqo
Cool Breeze "Cre-A-Tine" (I Got People)
