I'm torn between Pole The Wad and Sun, You Are Bright.

_Rockist__Scientist_, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

Buttons You Are Circle sounds too much like a emo band

chaki, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

The Doors of Shatter!

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

That's a good one, but maybe sounds like Flipper tribute band.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 00:55 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, that was the association it had for me. Five-year olds can do convincing Flipper imitations!

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 00:59 (seventeen years ago)

I like The Triangle of Triangular Stuff the more I think about what it means.

The Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

Buttons You Are Circle it is. The federal govt. should pass a law that Rufus MUST name all bands in America.

We should also try to rename already existing bands with these fine choices. Suggestions:

Hairs On Feet - King Kong
The Truckems - BTO
The Mailboxes Of Doom - The Doors
The Rock-Eating Trees - 10,000 Maniacs
The Grown-Ups Of Villains - Gentle Giant
The Math Gear Superfines - Tortoise
Wood Of Ovens - Black Sabbath
The Book Of Madness - The Skatalites
Trashbag, You Are Stinky - Pussy Galore
Sun, You Are Bright - The Beach Boys
The Team Of Microwaves - Kraftwerk
The Vibration Of A Hundred Times A Million - AR Kane

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 01:24 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 03:36 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, so many of these are so great. I really like "The Vibration Of A Hundred Times A Million."

Talking Of Martians

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 04:21 (seventeen years ago)

I really really like The Vibration Of A Hundred Times A Million but it sounds too much like an Austin post-rock band.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

The Metal Detector Supremes

pick this one for cookie monster vocal covers of diana ross!

Buttons You Are Circle

latebloomer, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 06:19 (seventeen years ago)

Talking of Martians has a nice double meaning ("talking"), similar to Smashing Pumpkins ("smashing").

B'wana Beast, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 06:42 (seventeen years ago)

I also like the double in sun, you are bright -- sounds like son and I think fondly of someone saying this to barney fife or something

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:04 (seventeen years ago)

Buttons You Are Circle.

And there's definitely a few Stereolab track titles in that list too..

Jack Battery-Pack, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

They all sound like they ought to be on Kranky records.

the next grozart, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 13:05 (seventeen years ago)

Other than Pole The Wad which reminds me of Toad the Wet Sprocket

this kind of behavior didn't turn out well for Robert Pollard

zaxxon25, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

I like Randy Newman's son's band name: Smashed Infant.

Jazzbo, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 18:36 (seventeen years ago)

Rufus featuring Skot Seward

rev, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

I can almost hear what these bands sound like:

The Truckems - A blues/county boogie band. All the members have beards like Billy Gibbons and huge beer guts. Every song will mention beer, truck driving, or getting out of rehab.

Wood of Ovens - Free folk. The band will be extremely hairy and only play midnight gigs in abandoned warehouses.

The Pledge of Wisdom - An emo name if there ever was one.

leavethecapital, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 20:53 (seventeen years ago)

The Pledge of Wisdom might also suit a medieval-themed heavy metal band, as long as it was super-serious. The Doors of Madness for a band playing Madness songs in the style of The Doors. Buttons You Are Circle for a mad Japanese punk band. The Truckems for something like ZZ Top only by kids.

moley, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:44 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, it has gotta be Pole The Wad.
Short, rolls off the tounge, makes no sense, fantastic.

The Book of Madness!

Z S, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

Skot, that kid is a genuine original. Best to keep him on that island and away from mainstream society for as long as you can.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 00:12 (seventeen years ago)

Pole the Wad reminds me a bit of Toad the Wet Sprocket

moley, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

mainstreamland

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

my ex's little cousins got musical instruments for xmas. they were jamming and pretending they were in a band, and she asked Lois, a 7-year old girl who was playing drums, what her rockstar name was. she said that her name was "Saturday Morning."

gr8080, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

I really should post up my daughter's electo effort, 'Aliens Are COming to Attack Us Yeah', which she recorded when she was six. It contains the line 'Make yourselves invisible with your invisibility sticks!!'

moley, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 01:00 (seventeen years ago)

These kids would make great nieces/nephews!

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

all y'all know it should be dreamboat gorilla.

cryfok, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 01:36 (seventeen years ago)

Pole the Wad! Pole the Wad!

i just like saying it.

sparkletuna, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

Well, The Coins Who Eat Dust is nearly as nonsensical as Pole The Wad, but I think it conveys more power. You just know a band called that means business.

Bimble, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 02:53 (seventeen years ago)

^^bimble knows what's up

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

You could parse it as Money Pwns Death if you wanted to- of course, you might not want to.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 02:59 (seventeen years ago)

I guess Microsoft is not a possible one any more. (

csa, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 03:04 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sad nobody's repped for the Picture of Eyeball. I wish I had thought of it.

maciej recognizing trill, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 03:17 (seventeen years ago)

Guys. Stop the presses: RUFUS PEOPLE.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 03:19 (seventeen years ago)

Truckems!

The Running Wild Superators is awesome too. And I think maybe Pole the Wad is more an album/song title.

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 10:44 (seventeen years ago)

"The Metal Detector Supremes" is pretty chilling and dystopian. Sad, actually. Damn.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 11:43 (seventeen years ago)

If he's taking suggestions, let me point out that the sequel to Seaguy, "Slaves of Mickey Eye" was just announced.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 12:42 (seventeen years ago)

These are great. I think I'll go for Buttons.

My 3-y-o described Pan Sonic (one of the quieter tracks on Kesto) as "music for monsters" and said "I think someone is singing...the letter 'R'".

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 12:51 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

This honestly has had the highest concentration of good options to choose from of any poll ever on ILX.

mehlt, Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:32 (seventeen years ago)

Rufus says:

"I vote for The Truckems, even though most people voted for Buttons You Are Circle. I just want them to know that my name is Rufus and I am a kid who is five years old and I was born in 2002 on December 2nd. Thank you, internet people."

scott seward, Friday, 25 April 2008 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

There must be something to this Coins Who Eat Dust / MN thing---gets my vote...if I had seen this thread in time.

RabiesAngentleman, Friday, 25 April 2008 07:10 (seventeen years ago)

"I am five, so no spam, please."

DJ Mencap, Friday, 25 April 2008 08:44 (seventeen years ago)

This is like a better version of the Life In Hell strip where Matt Groening's kid comes up with all these rad horror film titles!

DJ Mencap, Friday, 25 April 2008 08:45 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, let's do this again sometime eh? I was thinking of this poll yesterday and suddenly felt bad that Truckems didn't get more love. I'm glad that's the one Rufus apparently liked best.

Bimble, Friday, 25 April 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

Thank you, internet people.

<3

jhøshea, Friday, 25 April 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

This was so good. Kudos, Rufus.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 25 April 2008 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

Rufus is a hit, man!

dad a, Friday, 25 April 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

scott might u suggest to rufus that his preferred band name could be improved by eliminating the "the" - just: truckems!

jhøshea, Friday, 25 April 2008 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

but then it sounds like some corny indie band

Edward III, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

like battles

Edward III, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

isn't there already a Mother Truckers band or something?

stephen, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

Drive By Truckems, yeah

StanM, Friday, 25 April 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

mehlt OTM: best poll ever. Rufus rules, just like his parents!

StanM, Friday, 25 April 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

fifteen years pass...

he's been on the lookout for a new band name for awhile! i will have to show him this thread. haha!

he's been going by *Rufus Cesspool* for years now.
