How many songs can we find with Camden Town mentioned in the lyrics? And which is your favourite?
― Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 07:52 (seventeen years ago)
There must be hundreds. I'll start with:
1. Come Back To Camden - Morrissey
― Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:12 (seventeen years ago)
2. One by Suggs.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:13 (seventeen years ago)
3. Charles Bukowski Is Dead - Boo Radleys (Gotta get out of these smoky clothes/Rid myself of this Camden filth)
― felicity, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:17 (seventeen years ago)
I don't think there's 'hundreds', be lucky to get past 20 I reckons.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:34 (seventeen years ago)
4. Sorted for Es and Wizz - Pulp (Bought the tickets from some f***ed up bloke in Camden Town) (favorite lyric)
― felicity, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:38 (seventeen years ago)
Well, maybe not hundreds, but surely a lot more than 20.
5. London Belongs To Me - Saint Etienne ("took a tube to Camden Town")
― Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:57 (seventeen years ago)
Also, I bet Suggs has more than "one"!
― Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:59 (seventeen years ago)
I wouldn't have thought there'd be all that many
― Tom D., Wednesday, 23 April 2008 09:02 (seventeen years ago)
Certainly no Madness tracks that I can think of
A quick google throws up one at least: Shadow of Fear ("I walk through Camden Town in the evening / Strolling silently and hardly breathing")
― Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 09:07 (seventeen years ago)
London Belongs to Me is my favourite song to name check Camden Town by a long chalk and what propmpted me to ask the question. I knew the Suggs and Pulp ones, which I believe were even in the charts at the same time.
My favourite lines from LBTM are:
To the sound of the World of Twist You lent over and gave me your kiss It's too warm to even hold hands But that won't stop us from making plans
― Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 09:29 (seventeen years ago)
"Camden Town" by Tory Suggs is the worst single ever made, especially the bit where he goes "MADNESS in the air."
― Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 10:03 (seventeen years ago)
The Clash - "Gates Of The West"
(favourite is Saint Etienne as already mentioned, albeit by default)

Pogues - London Girl
