I remember that they had a sort of almost would-be quasi hit here (U S of A) back in the '80s. I can't remember what it was called, but I could hum you the chorus right now if you like. Catchy, to say the least, and probably ahead of its time, vis-a-vis contemporary French pop worth respect.

I was just spinning my Marcia Baila 12" recently, and it still sounds good!

Sparks fans always seem to know something about them (like me!). But that's about it.

Yeah, love what I've heard, though I guess the only ones that have really stuck with me are the big hits, "Marcia Baila", "C'est Comme Ca", "Hip Kit". I used to hear the first two in clubs in New York quite a bit in the 80s, they were very popular with the fashionistas. Love their videos, as well, they were the first group I can recall to do a tribute to Bollywood sort of video. Didn't Catherine Ringer have some sort of altercation with Serge Gainsbourg on French TV? Only this time, unlike Whitney, she came out on top?

Lee, was their hit called Singin In The Shower?

Daniel, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I'm pretty sure C'est Comme Ca was the hit. It had a pretty cool video if I recall. They used to get played all the time in the late 80s/early 90s on Australian music video show Rage.

anything I've heard by them I've liked. But I've not heard much, and that only in snippets on TV.

didn't they do a track with Sparks? actually, I didn't like that one much.

"C'est Comme Ca" was the one I remember. I can even remember a bit of the video.

"Andy" was their big hit here in Canada, from what I can recall. Much Music had the video (which I only vaguely remember) in fairly heavy rotation. Like Sparks, they were/are crazy. Lots of fun.

French youngsters still listen to it, trust me!

Les Rita Mitsouko are very much and alive, and will be releasing a new albulm in Summer 2002. This will follow on from 2000's 'Cool Frénésie' which was a great return to form.

Their website is at http://www.ritamitsouko.org - and includes an English translation of most of the content.

The 'news' link http://www.ritamitsouko.org/NEWS.htm is in English and contains concert info and free music/image files for download.

C'est bonne :)

A college roommate was an exchange student in France, and came home with a shitload of 'cheesy French music'. I stole her tape of LRM and she was baffled as to my fascination with them. I love that first album, yes I have it on vinyl, and The No Comprendo. Marc et Robert grew on me. I've been nearly alone in my passion, looks like.
