Gotta be the first one. The opening one-two punch are reason alone.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 13:39 (seventeen years ago)

I got the ones I have in this order:

2nd Album
Technicolor
1st Album.

The "Tech" is 'nice' versions of their stuff, in english. A bit disappointing. I love 1st, but not as much as 2nd.

Where to go now?

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 13:41 (seventeen years ago)

i like technicolor cause of all the ingles

jhøshea, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 13:43 (seventeen years ago)

I find the first two almost too mental to listen to; the guitars are fucking crazy, and he drums are worse, sound-wise. The songs and arrangements are awesome, but they convinced engineers to do some bloody horrendous things in the studio.

I'd pick the first Rita Lee solo album if it was on there; it's all the same personnel and recorded in 1972. As it's not... I'll plump for A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado, I think. Jardim Elétrico and Mutantes e Seus Cometas no País do Baurets get a bad rep, though; they're both good albums and still pretty far out. I've not heard O A eo Z or Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol.

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 13:44 (seventeen years ago)

Just get A Divina Comedia. Deosn't really compare to the first two, but it's in the same spirit. Voted for the first album myself. For that aforementioned "opening one two punch" (make it a one two three with "O Relogio") and "Adeus Maria Fulo."
Their prog album is amusing (A to Z)

Mark G - http://www.stylusmagazine.com/articles/on_second_thought/rita-lee-os-mutantes-hoje-o-primeiro-dia-do-resto-da-sua-vida.htm

I seriously think that Rita Lee record is one of the best things I've ever heard, and does everything I wanted all the Os Mutantes albums proper to do but never quite got consistently from them.

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

Right, got a bid on ebay goin. Thanks!

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 14:49 (seventeen years ago)

Their prog album is amusing (A to Z)

they got yessed out! there are some really good tracks on those. but i voted for the second one.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

has anyone seen their shell adverts? they are possibly the most nuts thing i have ever seen. i think it's divina comedia for me.

cw, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

though the first one has sublime sad psych songs and the second one is rabid

cw, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

havent spent enough time with all of them but i <3 he first one so much

sleep, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

the first one

sleep, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

second then first then third then fourth and that's all I've heard.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

love divina comedia. ave lucifer is one of my faves.

s1ocki, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

The solo Rita Lee that I've heard is incredible. I've only heard the songs "Vamos Tratar da Saude" and "Amor a Moda." Would not mind hearing that first album at all.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

That's the one I meant, Trip - I got confuzzled! Sorry.

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

I really like the production on technicolor, but the english vocals are trying. a bizarro greatest hits collection.

the cavaleiros negros ep from '76 is pretty awesome but I don't think that ever made it to cd.

mark have you heard gal costa's 1969 albums?

Edward III, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

Os Mutantes for this at least

'Panis et Circenses'

I need to check that other stuff don't i? Starters?

Fer Ark, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

second is my favorite, but the first three are all pretty flawless (except i dont like that one song where rita lee is copping janis).

the fourth is really fun, but definitely there are some moments where im like UH ok this is a little stupid

69, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

mark have you heard gal costa's 1969 albums?

No, but bear in mind I have 3 OsMut CDs bought over a 10? year period, I like to live with each for ages. And I have that 'new' RitaLee plus frieend one awaiting... But by all means, point me.

Mark G, Thursday, 24 April 2008 12:44 (seventeen years ago)

One of the Gal Costa self-titled albums was re-released by Dusty Groove a couple of weeks ago - the REALLY mad one with Tuareg on it - it's awesome. Seek out!

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 24 April 2008 12:53 (seventeen years ago)

Edward III, Thursday, 24 April 2008 13:50 (seventeen years ago)

that should hold you over for 3-4 years

Edward III, Thursday, 24 April 2008 13:51 (seventeen years ago)

turaeg rules, is the rest like that?

for anyone on a rita lee kick, i'd say get the second one before the first (build up) which is very patchy

cw, Thursday, 24 April 2008 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not getting Build Up

It reminds me of that stuff I had to drink back in 1987 (8 stone, 6ft 1 persion so I was)

Mark G, Thursday, 24 April 2008 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

what?

69, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

Took a day for the aging brane to get the joke in the thread title.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

The irony is, today we have a new refrigerator.

Mark G, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

turaeg rules, is the rest like that?

depends what you mean. it's a crazy record. there's not another middle eastern type tune on it but there are plenty where gal works herself up into admirable vocal fits over wtf instrumentation.

Edward III, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

that sounds fine to me. whats the other 1969 lp like?

cw, Thursday, 24 April 2008 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

it's good, but more traditional + melodic rather than weird + volcanic. it seems to be the more lauded of the two but the dusty grooves reissue of gal may cause that topic to be rethunk.

Edward III, Thursday, 24 April 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Not surprising at all, but a little sad. The third one's the best!

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 06:45 (seventeen years ago)

first poll I've seen where results are in chronological order

Edward III, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)

Aye.

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:09 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

shocking results. the sixth and seventh albums have the best covers. and O 'A' E O 'Z' sounds like tropacalia yes instead of stereolab, still probably too ahead of its time

Still don't have that one!

Mark G, Sunday, 26 March 2023 22:10 (two years ago)

It’s not quite as Tropicalia as the first two but still of a similar high quality with plenty of great, classic songs.
