It's all about the he said she said POLLshit - Limp Bizkit Singles

For a brief (and now thankfully distant) time, these guys were inescapable on rock radio. And despite Fred Durst's self-evident doucheyness and increasing delusions of grandeur, these singles were actually pretty fun, typically hookier than almost anything else in their genre. Looking over the list I'm kind of surprised at how many of these I wouldn't change the channel on today. It's easy to give rockist cred to Wes Borland's disproportionately weird guitar work, but Durst's clowning does help lighten the mood (often unintentionally).

And then there's everything from after 2001.

pretty good singles band. top five:
"My Way"
"Break Stuff"
"Re-Arranged"
"Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)"
"Take a Look Around"

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:23 (seventeen years ago)

"Rearranged" is really good! I don't mind "My Way" either, and "Nookie" is very funny. They're still awful.

edwardo, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:26 (seventeen years ago)

It's a hard call between Rollin', Faith and Break Stuff, but how can you argue with either Rollin's chorus (or the Ben Stiller cameo in its video, for that matter) which you couldn't get out of your head, no matter how hard you may have tried, for days....

Michael_Pemulis, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:30 (seventeen years ago)

Great poll idea by the way....I've already decided that I'm going as Fred Durst for halloween this year....the hat, goatee, puffy vest, overszie tshirt and baggy low jeans....gonna be fun fun fun!

the best part of "Nookie" is that there's no dirty version. the only one that exists is the one that says "stick it up your NYAHHHHH".

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

what word would you put in there Alex In Baltimore?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:07 (seventeen years ago)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:09 (seventeen years ago)

least worst goes to 're-arranged'.

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:16 (seventeen years ago)

i wonder if durst is mad that kid rock has a relatively successful career as a Genuinely Serious country star

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

wiki:
Next, Durst returned to Gastonia and to the hip-hop scene, forming a rap duo: a friend was the DJ and Durst styled himself as a rapper similar to Vanilla Ice. He gained contacts in the music industry and the duo put together a promo video showcasing their talents. The promo video was unsuccessful in obtaining a recording contract.

WHY HASNT THIS VIDEO SURFACED

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:42 (seventeen years ago)

LMFAO this quote

Shawn Crahan, one of Slipknot's percussionists, threatened violence against him if he criticized their fans again, and Taylor later said in an interview with MuchMusic that he saw Durst as a great businessman, but not as an artist. In a 2001 post on Limp Bizkit's website, Durst disputed the perceived ill will against Slipknot. He was quoted as writing, "We really like Slipknot and are very happy that they hate us, because it makes their music heavier, angrier and real!" [8]. This quote angered Chris Fehn, Slipknot's other percussionist. Fehn later described Durst as being "scared of us (Slipknot) and that he didn't know until then that Clown (Shawn Crahan) was being serious about what he implied".

CLOWN ARE SERIOUS CLOWN!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:45 (seventeen years ago)

That video did surface. He wears grey slacks.

J@cob, Thursday, 24 April 2008 08:36 (seventeen years ago)

Break Stuff.

Chris in Belfast, Thursday, 24 April 2008 10:44 (seventeen years ago)

N 2 Gether Now is the only one with anything for Rollin', but it's barely a LB vehicle. My Generation and Rearranged get honorable mentions.

The Break Stuff video has the advantage of making Snoop Dogg look like a dork.

gabbneb, Thursday, 24 April 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

Best Limp Bizkit moment: at Woodstock '99 Fred Durst blew his voice out, and "Break Stuff" sounded like it was being sung by the Squeaky-voiced Teen from the Simpsons.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

I voted "Eat You Alive" because it's so gross and awful that it's great. As was the video.

Beatrix Kiddo, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

N 2 Gether Now is totally the best video - Reggie's shit-eating grin says it all

gabbneb, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

My Top 5:

"Eat You Alive"
"Rearranged"
"Take A Look Around"
"Faith"
"Nookie"

To be fair, I didn't buy that last overpriced EP thing (though I did sample some tracks on an FYE listening station).

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Nookie"'s a pretty good song with really loathsome lyrics.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

only one vote for "Faith"??

stephen, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 23:21 (seventeen years ago)

"Faith" never clicked with me - just loud and grating. Would have loved to see more votes for the hilariously stupid "My Way," where Fred tries to adapt your dad's tough-guy attitude ("it's my way or the highway!") with predictable results. A friend and I always wanted the band to go further in this direction of outdated slang, culminating in "Popsicle Stand (Let's Blow This)."

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 1 May 2008 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

I voted "My Way." Anyone who didn't, I will straight up leave your shit.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 1 May 2008 14:40 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

Since I did this poll, the band has reunited and released three more singles: "Gold Cobra," "Shotgun," and "Ready To Go," plus videos for "Autotunage," "Lightz (City Of Angels)" and "Bring It Back." At this point they are one of those bands where most of their career is the late stuff nobody's ever heard, or heard of. Anything good in there?
