What a terrible thing to say!

This is the man who played drums on Another Green World, don't forget.

And while Genesis on the whole were kind of lame, I betcha I can name five good songs from them under Colllins' direction right now: "Land of Confusion," "Man on The Corner," "ABACAB," umm, "Keep it Dark," and uhh, uhh, "Turn it On Again."

And though I ain't buying it, a recent thread here says "In The Air Tonight" was worth bothering with.

And then there was the whole Brand X thing, a respectable jazz fusion thing that I can't really comment on, other than to say it was probably alright.

So chill, there's a lot more to bitch about than Phil Collins, y'know?

just in case you guys weren't absolutely sure if I really hated music and wanted it to die or not

El Tomboto, Friday, 25 April 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

His last decent solo album was released in 1989 anyway, so he will not be missed for now. Hopefully the others can make him change his mind whenever Peter Gabriel is ready for a reunion tour though ;)

max, Friday, 25 April 2008 22:52 (seventeen years ago)

phil collins has been a part of a lot of good songs.

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 25 April 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

phil collins really wasn't THAT bad, even later. i remember liking one of the 'tarzan' songs and i owned 'both sides' once. i heard 'i can't dance' after 'baby baby' by amy grant on the radio today and it was kind of awesome.

strgn, Friday, 25 April 2008 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

I don't own any Phil Collins albums, but I've liked almost every single of his I've heard. I like his nasal, unassuming vocals, and he's very good at crafting pretty pop songs. I even liked "Both Sides of the Story" and "Dance into the Light".

Tuomas, Sunday, 27 April 2008 09:41 (seventeen years ago)

You mean, someone liked "Dance Into The Light"? Impossible. :)

i don't know how hating one shitty singer is the "functional equivalent" of hating two other shitty singers -- it's not a challenging opinion to hate them.

probably about as challenging as slamming jay leno's monologues?

Nah, I think Max is right. It's all about easy targets, innit. "free at last, free at last, thank GOD almighty" from a guy who's barely made any records for the last decade at least, from a guy who's played on some straight up classic records, and who's one of the best drummers ever to come out of this country. "A Trick Of The Tail" and "Wind And Wuthering" were two of the best albums ever made. Phil didn't do much more than sing and drum on those two though.

well.. other than the fact he's a Tory piece of shit;)

laxalt, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

Well, judging from the 2000 and 2004 elections, most Americans are Republicans. And rather a Tory than a Republican after all.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)

Stick to the music before you make an even bigger fud of yourself.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 12:08 (seventeen years ago)

One of the things that always made me laff:

If you called yourself a republican in the UK, you are a lefty trotsky red basterd or something.
If you called yourself a liberal in the USA, same result.

Reverse both, and people go ah.

haha geir your biggest aesthetic problem is you think the drumming is the least important part of rock music, when it's really the most important part.

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)
