my dad is a huge Sting fan, and the next time he goes on about how he mastered so many different genres of music I'm just going to go "and hip hop too!" and throw on "Roxanne '97," "I'll Be Missing You," and "Stolen Car (B. Recluse Remix)."

don't forget the lute. sting is a cutting-edge star in the lute-rock community.

it's kind of backward, this is more or less a twista song with sting hidden on the hook. of course all this means is that it's now fully the reverse of the early 90s where every bad pop song had the "rapper in the middle" breakdown with a terrible rapper manning the lane; now it's good rappers with terrible pop singers clogging up the center.

you must understand: in 1999, i was in a punk band called Plain Jane, my favorite band was DROPDEAD. like, i didn't know who Britney Spears was until August of 1999, a full 8 months after her debut album came out. so.. uh, yeah, i didn't really pay attention to much outside of my own little world, much to my detriment.

I'm not sure I heard it for a few years after it came out? I'm pretty sure I first heard it when I worked for a place that piped in soft rock radio years later. I do remember hearing "Brand New Day" at the time tho.

i remember seeing this video on vh1 a lot back in the day

and hearing it as the technical difficulties music on someone's satellite radio a few years ago

the commercial was the worst: Sting looking appalled that a toaster or whatever could be sold with his name on it. Like he would be appalled.

Not sure what this adds. Just a computerised drum track, some electronic touches and some stripping back of what was originally awesome instrumentation. Doesn't have the same soul or power as the original. I miss his work with diverse instruments and performers, not computers and DJs.
