Saxophones in Bryter Layter

is Bryter Layter a great album despite the saxes (ie - do they detract from what would have been even better)

OR - are they an integral and necessary part?

Lyn Dobson I can take or leave, but Ray Warleigh's bitter-toned alto works well on "Poor Boy" along with Chris McGregor's deadpan Monk piano chords. Would have been even better had first-choice alto Dudu Pukwana been available.

sorry i just think his sister is the talented one, that's all, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Were you a big fan of 'Crossroads' and the 'Kelly Montieth Show' then Mark?

I always forget that John Cale and Richard Thompson played on some of the Nick Drake recs.

Can't even remember the sax bits to be honest. But LP wouldn't work IMO w/o the flutes - two (TWO!) great flautists on the record.

COULD CARE LESS IF THEY USED A TUBA IN THE ALBUM, ITS STILL GREAT NO MATTER WHAT.

Bryter Later is RUINED by the hideous, ugly, wailing saxes. Five Leaves Left is one of THE great albums, and is far better than the grotesque, overrated Bryter Later.

there is NO artefact bearing the title "crossroads" which is not bettah than an artefact bearing the name "nick drake"

The fatal flaws in your argument are the two Eric Clapton box set monstrosities.
