i own a saw. and an album by saw maestro David Weiss. he covers Misty, Sweet Georgia Brown, Elenor Rigby, Summmertime & The Rainbow Connection. pretty silly album. fun to put on for guests

I'd like to hear some saw albums as well. There's at least gotta be some weird old busker albums out there right?
For a while there I was teaching myself to play the saw but my bow got broken. Similar story with my mandolin. :(

The theme from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest uses this in a lovely way.

in church one time when i was a kid, a woman played hymns on the saw while a man drew bible scenes on a big pad in pastels. it was weird, but it was always nice to have a break from the usual sermons and stuff.

Sounds like an acoustic theremin, doesn't it?

six years pass...

Came across a little collection of saw records this weekend at a garage sale. Sampled them all last night and most are pretty dire, but the David Weiss record isn't bad (for what it is). He's certainly skilled at it, much more so than most of the folksy hymn-yowlers who made up the rest of the collection, even if the musical selections are kind of corny.

The Flatlanders had Steve Wesson playing the musical saw. Here's an example:
