or something, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Eh? It's a sample from a grooverider track slowed down, are you sure, do you have any idea of the track name? Grooverider must have sampled it from somewhere then, hmmm.

oh, man.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

Why is everyone so mean these days?

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 18:34 (seventeen years ago)

Oh dear, have i made some kind of drum and Bass faux pas, extremely sorry, but i haven't got a clue, that's why i'm asking.

rebop, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not sure it even is a sample actually.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

it comes from enoch light's 1959 "provocative percussion" album. i bought a big pile of his albums a few years ago as the drums are supremely well recorded and i thought i'd find some drum breaks i could sample (i did!) and was somewhat taken aback to discover the drum break from "bug in the bassbin"

stirmonster, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

actually, it's from "provocative percussion volume 2" and the track is "lady is a tramp"

here it is - http://download.yousendit.com/1029D1792132EE48

Woh!

There are so many great Enoch Light records, and for sampling they are a goldmine since he's so into showing off these arrangements with hard-panned sudden breakdowns to just one instrument. I think the Tipsy albums have a lot of Enoch Light snippets hiding in plain sight. Surely people have ripped off the breaks from that "Spaced Out" LP by Enoch Light and the Light Brigade album with the pseudo-Barbarella cover art?

Drew Daniel, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

From the Breaks:

Provocative Percussion: (Command 1959)
* "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps"
Arrested Development - "Man's Final Frontier"

Dance. . . Dance. . . Dance: (Command 1964)
* "And I Love Her"
Beatnuts - "Look Around"

Spaced Out: (Project 3 ?)
* "A Little Fugue for You and Me"
Beatnuts - "No Escapin' This"

Brass Menagerie, 1973: (Project 3 1972)
* "Hot Pants"
Original Flavor - "Give 'em Some Wrek"

Disco Disque Project 3: (? 1975)
* "Hi-Jack"
Beatnuts - "Watch Out Now"
Jennifer Lopez - "Jenni from the Block"
Just Ice - "Hijack"

I fucking LOVE "A Little Fugue for You and Me" and the Beatnuts track that samples it.

Raw Patrick, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 21:58 (seventeen years ago)

downloaded the HiJack track just last week. cover of a Barrabas song.

here's another version done by Herbie Mann

jaxon, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

Never knew that. Worth slsking the Barrabas version?

Raw Patrick, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks stirmonster, i wasn't expecting someone to go to the effort to post the track, the drums are well recorded, reminded me a bit of the drums on some moondog records. And no problem 'or something', i still don't get what i did.

Has anyone heard the kirk Degiorgio remix of 'bug in the bassbin' it's amazing i'd post an mp3 but my copy is really scratched, it's worth hunting down.

Here is the Kirk Degiorgio mix, i'm sure he wouldn't mind. The quality isn't that good, but eq it to your pleasure and wait for that breakdown!

rebop, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe he will post here again.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)
