I know there are V/A tributes to Sgt Pepper and stuff, but that's not what I'm looking for - a single band or artist covering a single (or double) album by another

sonofstan, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 22:47 (seventeen years ago)

Didn't Jim O'Rourke cover a Hanatarash record?

Pussy Cats is an album by Harry Nilsson released in 1974. It was produced by John Lennon during the pair's "lost weekend" phase. During the production of this album Nilsson ruptured one of his vocal cords but chose not to notify Lennon and forced himself to push through the sessions.

In October of 2006, a track-by-track cover of the album was released by indie rock band The Walkmen.

Blue Note had a series of these: Charlie Hunter doing Natty Dread, somebody (Everette Harp?) did What's Going On, a couple of others.

And old what's-her-name that did that Dylan record; Mary Lee's Corvette or something, Blood on the Tracks.

Claw Hammer covered Q: Are We Not Men...

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

Every Ramones album up through "Too Tough to Die" at least (including "It's Alive") has a complete cover version.

More: "Rise Above" (Dirty Projectors), "The Who Sell Out" (Petra Haden), "Taking Tiger Mountain" (Doug Hilsinger & Caroleen Beatty), "Music for Airports" (Bang on a Can)

Carla Bozulich covered Willie Nelson`s Red-Headed Stranger album a couple of years ago.

Matt #2, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 09:28 (seventeen years ago)

There was that Band on the Run album on Menlo Park. Don Fleming and Tom Smith, maybe? I can't remember exactly who plays on it. It's nuts, anyway.

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 09:48 (seventeen years ago)

It was on the Smack Shire, actually. 'After That It's All Gravy'

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 09:59 (seventeen years ago)

It's not an "entire album" start to finish, but surely Scarlet Johansson's album of Tom Waits covers has to halfway count for something, right?

stephen, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

That opens up 10,000 more albums to this discussion then.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

Hitchcock covered both the Dylan Royal Albert Hall concert and all of the White Album

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

B.A.L.L. (Kramer, Don Fleming and some other guy) covered the Concert For Bangladesh, but it only took up side 2 of the album so I guess they missed some of it out.

Matt #2, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

the Easy Star All-Stars also covered Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon"

The only cover of that album that matters.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

Hitchcock also did Sgt. Pepper and Piper at the Gates of Dawn, if I remember correctly. He does these live shows for charity with various soft boys/egyptians. there are a few of them posted at archive.org. very loose, but fun.

tylerw, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

The only cover of that album that matters.
