I remember he had a competition on his show: Count the number of records he played on the show, send in the answer, and get all the records he played.

Can't say I really wanted anything he played that night, though.

You missed out the "let's visit the zoo but with records" option (when he was sitting in for Bob Harris on R2 one night).

Is that John Peel story true? In any case, that.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)

Not to mention his tireless championing of top eighties indie band The Sect.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)

As a voice and personality, I find him very difficult to dislike.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 12:07 (seventeen years ago)

It's strangely soothing to listen to his 6Music show, because despite the massive changes in the music scene over the past ten years, there's still bands making _exactly_ the same piss poor indie racket that he was playing back in 98. If someone can tell me who the band he played last week, who have a song about a girl with red lipstick eating fish and chips, are, it'd be appreciated. I'd like to give them 0/10 in a review somewhere.

Actually, I (l) Lamacq to the death, I just accept that he's not very good.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 12:08 (seventeen years ago)

Also, he once helped me run away from a guy who kept trying to punch me in a face in an indie club, back in 1998. Purely by getting in the way.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

Consumate professional DJ, ultimate face for radio, god awful taste in music, rivalling that guy who ran Fierce Panda for championing hopeless indie bands.

Neil S, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 12:15 (seventeen years ago)

"this thread", easily.
