such an underrated album! i mean, it sold 100 gazillion copies and it's the only charlie rich album most people would know and the only one most people would love, but charlie's own fans go on and on about the sun years (which were great) and the smash years (which were great) and even that awful jazzy swansong record (which was not great), while suggesting that the billy sherrill years were ok, good even, but not charlie at his best. but this is charlie absolutely peaking to my ears. god, what a voice. i like the way he sings "when they turn out the lights" here. so i guess that gets my vote.

(voted for the second "but when they turn out the lights" for dramatic purposes.)

Yeah, it's a good album. "I Take It On Home," Roger McGuinn's "Peace On You," "If You Wouldn't Be My Lady." My fave LP by him, though, is the self-titled one on Groove.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 2 May 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Love this song.. not a fan of lyrics polls however.

i think the "poll" part is a bit of the ol' tongue in the cheek.

Charlie Rich makes me glad that he's a man.
